    Scrap Value?

    Hello all,
Just started doing some part time scrap work on the side to help pay the bills. I am still learning as I go and this site has been great. I was hoping to get some advice on on the value of this metal "wire".

I saw it sitting in a public dumpster near a reservoir. There was a ton of it and I only had a car so I only grabbed a little of it.

My regular telescpoing magnet did not stick to it so I initally thought it was aluminum wire. But my hardrive magnet does stick.

So the question is... Is it considered steel? Contanimated aluminum? Have any of you seen such wire or know what its scrap value is?

    Much Thanks

In the utility biz, we call that "strand". Stranded steel, with maybe the alumimun but never saw that type. It is running from pole to pole and the cables are lashed to the pole using a lasher. It ties the cable to the strand with a stainless steel wire. Then the wire is tied off to a "bug nut".

Sounds like what my yard calls ACSR. Has its own price catagory. Pays the same as the high end of the range for irony aluminum.

Yep, Thanks to you guys I cut it into 18 inch pieces, striped out the iron strand and sold it as EC wire for .85 a lb. Ended up with 40lb of it.

    Thanks again.
