starter scrapping

I been buying starters for $2.00 a piece. Only problem is they are like treadmill motors. Permanent dc magnet with the copper wrapped around the rotor. And its sealed in epoxy. And the solenoids are sealed. No good way to get them open.

What do you guys do with them? I see like a $1.00 profit for 10 mins work, because all there is steel, alu cast nose...and the solenoid/rotor, going into the motor bucker at 20c a lb.



What are your thoughts?

Been thinking about starting a fire to burn them out, but dont like the environmental factors. Which is why I dont burn wire either.

Maybe find a buyer paying more for them whole, if you had a large amount you will command a better price.

I don't. I only have a handful which I bought from craigs for like 2 per unit. After opening one, its not worth it. Need to know what you guys do.

Those crappy ones with the permanent magnets toss em into the motor breakage bin. The oldies with copper field and armature windings dissemble them for the copper.

For those depressed bolt that hold the field coil into place burn it out with the plasma, a good impact screw driver would loosen them for those not familiar with this tool. You insert the proper bit, give the handle a slight twist then give the end of the driver a whack with a hammer.

Impact screw drivers are like $10.00 with a set of bits, if your working on a motor cycle engine or an outboard these are a must have tool, where your air impact will brake off screws and bolts these things break em lose every time.

Has anyone here tried using the wood chisel to cut the copper wire from motor field coils, starter and generator armatures as I had described in an earlier post, lets hear how it worked for ya. Maybe post some pictures to replace the ones I posted that got deleted.

Some of those pictures were from photobucket so if you moved some of your pic's around they will disappear. You copied that specific location so if you put it in another sub album the location will be wrong.

Be alright if we were only talking a couple of pictures here, there was dozens that I posted along with some videos. The photobucket account belongs to my other, we use it for hosting our ebay pictures, she deleted the folder I had those pictures in. They are not coming back anytime soon.

I tried the chisel on the winding cores a while ago. Now I use a cut-off blade in my table saw. Goes a lot faster.
