Breaking down a mobility cart

One of my steady scrap customers just landed a removal contract with the nursing home. Apparently Medicare rules REQUIRE the destruction of any equipment used by a patient that has "passed on". So I got a mess of wheel chairs and 2 mobility carts. There are 2 funny cylinders on each wheel rail, are they motors?? I am puzzled. Anybody..thanks in advance

do they have batteries? if so there must be somekind of electric motor on them

I scrapped one of these. They are heavy heavy heavy. There will be a battery in there. See what the definition of destruction is. The motors and the charging system can be sold on E-bay.

It took me some time to break down. The one I broke down had some heavy aluminum in it as well as some heavy steel. It was completely assembled with big allen wrench screws. Luckily I had a set.

Thanks for the tips I will investigate this further, I think I will be seeing more of these. Interesting looking controller,joy stick type.

O.k. I broke it down and got 2 aluminum copper motors, the joystick and charger go to evil bay, some cast aluminum, some breakage from the "transmission" by the wheels, it was easy to break down. It also coughed up some #2 insulated wire. It was worth it.
