I have a huge old electric motor, probably near 100lbs. It is in a heavy steel case, with a 1.5" shaft. What is the best way to break this monster down?

There's others on here tell you a lot more than me, but I'd start by taking out all the bolts and screws I could get to
Pull the 4 long bolts that run horizontally, either inside the case or outside the case. Should be able to see the bolt head and nuts fairly easy. A hammer and chisel may be needed to "pop" the end caps off. A little tap should do. The rotor will come out with a little or no trouble. If the outside casing is cast I have put on some eye protection and busted the case. If case is steal then a good saw-zall or grinder will split that. I have seen a steel pin that keeps the stator from sliding out the casing and a pry bar may be needed to open the saw cut a little wider to allow stator to slide out. Good Luck!
