some reason you don't pull the control board before shredding? Certainly could be a compliance thing, but those boards are worth pretty good money...
PROFIT is made when you BUY/ACQUIRE NOT when you sell

There is definitely more to shredding hdd than pulling the board. Compliance comes first and when you shred at a certain level the material you get with it makes up for much more than pulling the board. We are shredding when necessary not as a procedure

I certainly understand...things like HIPPA etc can make it a bit more difficult...granted never really understood what it mattered about control boards (ie there is no memory on them) and then shred the rest. But yeah like you said, if you can get PAID for the shredding AND then get to SELL the shredded material, it can be a WIN WIN all around.

We don't charge for any of our services including the HDD shredding and destruction. When it comes to data, perception is everything. Keeping a board to many will seem suspicious. Not worth it from our business model. We have been able to sustain a system of not charging which might not be sustainable in other areas of the country but works pretty good here.

One good piece of advise is to make sure you spell HIPAA correctly. Hope you don't think I am trying to point out a mistake just at you but it is extremely common to spell it with 2 PP and 1 A which is wrong . Just consider if your doing a certificate or proposal to someone and they see that you spelled it wrong. Goes back to the whole perception thing

You are absolutely correct...I just typed it too fast and didn't notice it. I do appreciate you pointing it out however...reminds me to reread and add special words in spell check.

One of the biggest dilemmas when starting up a full time Ewaste business. Adding a free, value-added service can increase business but runs the risk of not bringing in enough income. Charging for the service allows for income, but you many not get the volume of customers vs. someone that does it free. Both ways can have value and be profitable. Very similar to the issue of paying for equipment or trying to get it for free...
