its a perfect stripping setup if you do not want to buy a cable stripper. and it costs around $5.00
Let me know what you think I want lots of feed back on this if its what you guys do or if you have a faster way to strip the big cables without a machine.

Hey Jack, Rather interesting video'(s) I'm curious though?? why dont you sell the wire to a electrical contractor and make 3 -to- 5 times more. Thats providing you have heavy 2/0 , 3/0 , 4/0 long length wire such as you have in this video??

-I have an electrical suppliers outfit that buys pretty much everything when I strip machines but they wouldn't buy that cable. it was found in mud in a garden under some planks of wood. lol i got the call and removed it. hence the really dirty sock.

Nice to have support and help like that. If you could rig a stationary insulation cutter: two of you could pull and it wouldn't cost you a new pair of socks. If you could add a simple reel to hold the unprocessed cable; three of you could pull! Seems like you're doing ok with what you got at hand though.

I clamp one end in a vice and tie the other end around truck hitch. Then I put the truck in drive and stretch it untill its tight. I use a similar knife(tool) to cut it.

I did something similar to this with 14 guage wire. I used my kids to help me. I took 2 eye hooks and put them at both ends of my garage door opening. Then had one kid on each end one feed and one pulling. While I drug the knife across it. Had about 600 feet that I baught at an auction.

I had some like that before. I used a box cutter, Took a long time and I thought the blade was ganna break

The linoleum knife seems to do a pretty good job. Have you tried a carpet knife? The blades are thin yet strong and easy to keep a sharp edge at all times.
Give it a try but be careful it is very unforgiving!

I do use a carpet knife just for 12 gauge house hold wire and things like that I don't strip #2 insulated unless it came off the back of a TV.

For that size cable, when I do it by myself.
I fix one end about waist height & throw the cable over my right shoulder, hold the knife in my right hand with the blade horizontal & over the cable & my thumb under the cable.
Then I put my left hand around right hands fingers with thumb under the cable again.
Then I 'cut in' & start walking backwards.
Wear glasses, don't trip, & use a kitchen knife, not a 'snap off' sort of blade knife.
