This is sort of a thinking exercise about locating converters from decades back. As many older people know when cats first came out on vehicles and they eventually wore out, the vehicle owners would often find a mechanic, a garage or at least someone had the tools and know how to take the catalytic converter off and replace it with a straight pipe or gut the cat body and then weld it back on the exhaust system. There was a big demand for doing this and a lot guys did this kind of service work no questions asked. It was illegal to do so of course and as a result a lot of mechanics and other people had to find a way to dispose of the cats or the guts out of them. Garbage service wasn't as common back then as it is now so the cats and their guts probably were dumped out somewhere maybe in a deep ditch, old well or whatever. It stands to reason and if you were to check out old garage sites and other related places you might run across an old converter dump site back behind the garage. Is my line of thinking reasonable? Every now and then I talk to older people I meet and ask if they know of people who may have cut cats off cars on the side from years back. I did find one guy who knew someone did do that in his earlier years. I asked, " What did he do with the guts?" He told me he used them for driveway filler.
