Hi - I just joined the forum. I've been in salvage, recycling and reuse since the mid 1980s. Over that time I've been a generalist doing metals, electronics, deconstruction, you name it. I've always made a point to try and get the most value out of items, seeing scrap as the last alternative. But knowing the reality of things, I never pay more for material than I know I can make money at if I scrap it. Most of the time, I can get much more than scrap value.
Recently I've been doing deconstruction again. Good lumber is always available and always of value.
I started a website about my business a couple of years ago. You can find it at

If you are into metals that may be gold plated I have a free article about taking the gold plate off with minimal use of toxic chemicals.
I also have an eBook - How to make Money in the Salvage and Recycling Home Based Business. You can find it at my website.
I look forward to contributing to the forum and learning as well from all of your efforts.
