    Does this sound right?

I asked my yard how they wanted the aluminum separated. I expected something along the lines of sheet, extruded, cast and dirty or irony. He said throw all cast and sheet together, no need to pull the iron out but to separate the extruded.

Also, as far as extruded, am I correct in assuming window screen frames, lawn furniture, heat sinks, and refrig tubing (aluminum of course) or am I way off base? Thanks in advance.

I just sold some sheet AL yesterday @ 0.50/lb. Extruded is 0.60/lb.

Maybe...maybe not LOL! If it looks like it came out of a PlayDoh machine then it's extruded. If it looks like it could have been formed by bending or rolling a sheet then it is sheet. If the tubes have a seam running lengthwise they are sheet.

I don't understand why your yard would not want you to put the dirty/irony aside. Either they are going to sort it for you, or you are going to get dirty AL price for the whole lot.
If it wasn't for the $ in $crap, it would just be.....

My thoughts also, but this is a reputable yard, one of the nation's largest. Thanks for the info though

Perhaps the yard shreds the material?

was kinda my thought too, they might be running it all through the same route anyway, and then separating it by machine

They might also be remelting it and pouring it into ingots. Significantly reducing the fluff and making shipping easier.

Lawn furniture, window frames and tubing are all sheet. Heat sinks are extruded most of the time, I have seen heat sinks from sterios that have a flat sheet about 1/8 in thick and another peace of sheet that is wavy mounted on the thicker peice. Corection!! Window frames are extruded not sheet, I ment to say screen frames are sheet.
