I have been reading that mineral spirits would get the adhesive/glue off of the copper from the yokes. I am not having much luck with that. So my question is do u just take it to the yard as is and if so how much do they down grade it? If u are cleaning it what seems to be working for u? Thank u for the help. Jim

Jim, I take it in "as is." I'm pretty sure you won't get a better price if you clean it. I never clean mine.

I take a pair of pliers to it and bend it back and forth it falls right off

I just got done with a computer monitor about five minutes ago. Used pliers to break the plastic holding the 1st copper loops. Pried them out with a screwdriver. Then a cordless drill to take off the metal band holding the 2nd loops. Used the screwdriver to pry the copper out. Take them in as is.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

That works. I have all the plastic off of them just some adhesive/glue left on them. I just didn't want to short change myself time and money. Sounds to me from all of u guys to just let it be and take it in. Thank u all for the help.

If the copper is in a ferrite loop then just use a hammer to smack the ferrite and break it, use eye protection. Make sure all the plastic is gone. They should give you #2 price for it.

Ya they are all the way out. They are just as solid as a rock lol. I know the wires are held together by something cause they are not just loose strands. I did the hammer trick to them over the past few days and threw the copper in a garbage bag for now till I got all ur advise on how to best handle it from there

The adhesive/glue in the bottom part of ur picture is what I am speaking of. Just was afraid that stuff would down grade it way to much. I am saving all the copper I get and want to make a good haul. I don't want my labor to get down graded.

Every yard is different, I just know what MY yard will take as what. I don't know about yours in Ill.

I ain't sure either lol. I have take steel into a yard that I am pretty sure they only deal in metal. I still have to find a yard to deal with my copper and aluminum.

Lol true. The yard I am dealing with processes the metal they get in for there factory. They pay a better price cause of no middle man. That same company use to own there own small power station to melt the steel down into billets that they use in the factory. The power station is still there but owned and operated by someone else now for some reason or other
