I don't get into vehicles yet, but I do repair my own. Just found out the hard way that the driver side brake drum backing plate on a '98 chevy 1/2 ton with 10" drums are worth over $300.00, and can only be had from GM. It was the only year/ make they used them on.



Man am I p1ssed! Might be something for you car guys to watch for though. I'd have happily paid 100 for one today.

is that front or back or both ? why not both sides/all ? how hard are they to get off ?

I let some guys take my 80 Chevy LUV but before it left I pulled the carb, distributor, tail lenses etc, easy sells on ebay, but one thing I overlooked, and had several requests for, was the clutch pedal mounting bracket. I'd changed the motor and had to change the tranny too, taking it from a standard to an automatic, and long since forgot about that clutch pedal, but for conversions they are very important, and can be hard to find on any vehicle

I'd convert it to disc brakes, seen it done for bout 300 before

You probably could have gone to a junkyard and got a whole rearend for less money and had lots more spare parts

I tried like hell to find a complete rear end reasonably close to me, but no luck. There was one near by, but they needed a day to pull it. I need the truck rolling for pickup to make money so I couldn't afford to wait another day to get it, then another day to install it. Some times the cheapest option is to just bend over and take it like a man.

Can be tough to swallow the price tags of come items but time is money and like you said can't afford to have the truck sitting for any length of time, cost of doing business.
