Hi guys, I was wondering if you discharge your CRT monitors or if you just wait a few days, if so how long?

If they have been unplugged for over a week, they should be ok, key word here is should. Here's a link to an older episode, it'll explain itself; http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/showt...as-possible...

Never have, nor do I know how long they've been unplugged.. Just some good ol craftsman tools with rubber grips is all I use..

Yeah I dont discharge them either but I work with only rubber handled tools. Besides I like getting jolted. i was once hit by 440 volts from an airplane flap/sl;at electric motor. It shot me off the UMS stand. Had to meter the wires to make sure the voltage was getting there and my hand slipped and touched the plug and grounded myself out. That was a fun day
I've dismantled over 100 tv's this year and never got jolted.....until yesterday. Scared the hell out of me. I'm fine now fine now
fine now fine now fine now fine now......
B1-B bomber. Little bigger and newer then F-4. Dang Im not that old MDG
I do too one of the coolist looking planes ever. The name is awesome too Phantom....
As the mechanic up there oh so nicely brought up, i been shocked before.
I make sure my stock pile has been unplugged atleast a week. (The way my stock rotates, i have no problem with that.)
After that, i take the back plastic off, then cut the red thick chord. I take my needle nose pliers, take the suction cup off, then use my all and air the tube.
I also run my long rubber handled flat tip screw driver on the back of the circuit board to release any stored up power. I thought that didnt work at first, until i got a nice little jolt one day when my hand slipped and touched the screw driver when runnin it on the back of the board.
What i do works, hope some of it works for you.
LMAO! Sorry Hoss, not laughin at ya, but with ya! LOL.
That has to be the funniest thread on this whole forum. I've actually thought about it a time or two as I was going to break down a few of the 50 or so t.v.'s I've got here. Then I laugh, then cringe, then change my mind. My doggone pile just keeps growin. Before I read your story I only had about 20. I'm sorry it happened to ya. I really am, but I sure am glad it weren't me. LOL
