    scrapping MACs?

Are MACs bought at the same price as other computer towers? Free - $5 depending on scrap prices

depends what they are and how bad you want them, i would pay more than that if they are g4's or newer and boot up to os, imacs and lower just scrap value in my opinion, in sure some other people will post about this differently though

g4's that boot are bringing about $80 on resale value, imacs $60

I tore down over 100 Macs over the winter. Never again. I won't even take them for free.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I can only guess about what you're looking at, but the early ones were tough to take apart, the mids(around G3s) weren't bad at all, and the newest ones are mostly harder, but probably worth more as parts too

They suck. Keep your eye out for oddball colored cases. Some of those are rare and fetch a hefty price on E-bay, working or not. It's been awhile since I looked so can't remember the ones off the top of my head.

While reading this thread i was thinking "imacs" or "emacs" and thought you were out of your mind Chip! I did 15 imacs about a month ago and my first one took 30 minutes to figure out (probably longer actually) and even after 10 of them I only brought my break down time to 15 minutes. If you think printers have a lot of screws, you ain't seen nothing like an imac!

As far as what to pay for the towers I would go with your normal buying price. Especially if you are considering parting out and reselling on ebay. Those Apple nerds pay a lot of money for components. The video cards are averaging $20, heatsink covers with G5 logo $6, processors $20, power supply $30, i would try my best to figure out which components do work and list them on ebay. You could part one out a make $50 easy.

I would go $150 max based on assumption that while the "unit" may not work, the components may. With scrapping what's broken and parting out what works, you could make a pretty good profit.

People that know more about these than i do may be able to give you a better estimate of what you could get with a scrap/resell combo.

Chip...Posting pictures of these Macs would be great, as far as ID'ing them. Also, look inside the G4 towers and notice if any of the CPUs have a purple or possibly a gold colored heat sink. And yes...I'm an 'Apple Nerd'.

G4 are hitting lows on ebay, only the last generation G4 MDD (mirror drive doors) sell for much, older models are barely worth shipping. Mac nerds are using Intel based macs, a few old timers might still be using the last generation Pro G5's. Collectors snag up parts as usual, generally CPU upgrades, cosmetic items in mint condition, high end video cards, power supplies if they are tested working.

$5 each for the whole lot, the mac books as-is and g5 parts will do well in resale

I get to pick up my first Macs tomorrow. Supposedly only have bad hard drives. I hope I can figure that out. Maybe I can take them to an Apple Genius Bar and see what is wrong with them?? I think they diagnose for free. But, they practically know me by name...all of the computers (save one and those I'm scrapping) in my house and full time job are Macs of some sort.

Any time I can't figure something out I check out YouTube for a video or check Google for a tutorial on how to take it apart.

Macs are a PITA. I normally save up about 5-10 G4/G5's and break them down all at the same time. Good money in them. Much more so than most P4's.
