Is this a good price?

42lbs net power cords, ends removed at $0.60/lb ≈ $25

The wire was all 18AWG regular powercords. Ends cut off. Not stripped. They priced it at #4 INSULATED COPPER WIRE 35% which was $0.60/lb.

I thought it would get at least $1/lb. The said the unless the wire was bent and stayed at a 90 degree angle it would be less.

I am thinking maybe I should have stripped them.

Insulation % is measured by weight not thickness. I don't know of a stranded power cord that will stay at a 90% angle when bent! have power cords 1 1/4 in with # 6 stranded wire and they won't stay bent at a 90o angle. I have never heard of this way of classing cords before.

I had a similar problem with my #1 yard who has a grader/supervisor in the non Ferris section who just don't like me for what ever reason, May be I remind him of the guy ****** his wife I don't know, any way he tried to class all computer wire at #3 insulated.

Solution: cut 2 6 in. pieces of wire and weigh them separately wright down the weight. carefully strip only one of them and be sure to weigh ALL the insulation and place in a baggie, weigh the stripped wire and put it in the baggie along with the un stripped sample. If the bare wire is over 50% it is #2.

Using this method I get #2 price at any yard I go to while others are still getting com wire price.

This does not apply to ribbon wire, but most other round wire.

olddude - The larger yards here which the smaller yards sell to use that bend technique for what you would know as #1 wire, which what was being referred to. There are at least 6 ICW categories at these places. Some smaller yards don't want to deal with that and mash it all into #1 and #2, some don't.

What was the gross weight? I've never heard of the bending thing, but I can see where that would work. My yard just classifies it as #1 or #2. They knock off 50% for insulation, and pay a price for #1 and less for #2. .60 doesn't sound good at all.

Gross weight was 45lbs including the 3lbs for the container. I think I just need to shop around.

somtimes, if you only brought 42lb ICW to sell, they won't offer you a fair price.
for me, i am exporting containers to overseas, 35% recovery, i must pay 90 cents/lb. if there is power cord, it would be a little bit higher.
