Paint a House.. Get a BOAT as payment!

So on a recent client I was tapped to paint the interior of a house.. I did not quote out the doors because they were clean, the clients had no children to kick holes in them, scribble on them etc. They really only needed a nice bucket of hot soapy water and they would have shined up nice.. So towards the end of my gig they send me a text and say "Do you want to make some more $ painting all of the doors?" I said "Sure, I'll go over tonight and count the doors and get you a quote" Before I got over there that night she says "If you want my husband said instead of cash you can have the boat and trailer by the garage"

I politely said "Well if I bring home a boat my wife would kill me" But I started making calls. My father-in-law all but busted through the phone telling me I'd be able to sell the boat for far more than what I'd probably quote out to do the work. Long story short I took the boat. I not only got the boat and trailer but also: Fish Finder, 2 trolling motors, two life jackets, pair of oars, and a dead battery which was promptly sent to the core buyer.

I went to the BMV today and registered everything in my name so I'll be able to flip the boat once spring finally decides to arrive! Thought I'd share an oddity since scrap prices right now have gotten all of us a bit down. Think spring.. think fishing.. think SUN!

I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

As much as those are a dime a dozen all over Florida, they sell like mad. My dad and I had one without a motor once and all we did was fix some fiberglass and the thing sold on the trailer for a k. This was also probably back around 1997/1998. I know you're not in Florida Sledge, but you should get a descent amount for everything.

We have a bunch of little lakes around here about 15 miles down the road is Camp Atterbury which has a ton of lakes and hunting area.. A little further south is a place called Prince's Lakes and Cordry Sweetwater.. so I'm thinking with all these lakes, fishing lakes.. shouldn't be too hard to turn

Nice flip for sure I'd use it for a bit then sell it. I can play with lots of toys I just can't keep any. If I want to play with lots, that is.

    Good score!

Been thinking about dropping it in the water.. but the way I see it.. it is like a dog.. sort of.. If you name the dog you own it.. if you take the boat out.. you OWN it.. never have a chance to sell it.. catch me drift?

Looks like you got yourself a nice little bass boat there sledge! The electric motor on the left with the chrome shaft is an old one. The one on the right with the black shaft is a newer model. How many pounds of thrust on that one? I'm guessing 35 probably. The handle might telescope also. Should push you around ok as long as it's not too windy. That boat would be a good river runner if you put a small outboard on it due to the flat bottom.
Money is not the root of all evil, the love of money is.

    I love barter deals.
I painted the exterior of a ranch house for a pick up truck.
Had a new alternator installed, sold it for $3,500.00
Took two 6 hour days and $120.00 in material.
People will part with stuff faster than they will money.

Pjost- Both are 25lb thrust.. The Minn Kota is the older one and needs a new prop.. the black one is the one he used all the time.. figured with both it would sweeten the deal for someone!
I wasn't keen on taking it.. but I figure with a little effort on my part I should come out WAY ahead when I sell vs quote price

Time only.. they paid for all the materials.
So as a fellow contractor see what your thoughts are:
    Painted 9 doors
    8 panel doors
    1 slotted utility room door
    FOR
All above in the showcase showdown.. not too shabby right?

I am waiting on Title from the state for the trailer.. 7 to 10 days from Friday.. We are supposed to get (2) 40 degree days maybe Tuesday and Wed.. if so the snow should melt. Then we are supposed to get a 42 degree day Saturday.. so if all works out well by Saturday the snow will be gone and I'll have title in hand. The CL ad is already written and saved!
