For quite a while I had been able to buy computers and other ewaste from my trash company. I went to check them out a couple of months ago and I must have caught the boss on a bad day cause he jacked the price up to $4.00 ea. (take them or leave them). I had been paying 3.50 and was thinking about dropping it a little more.



Well it's been 2 or 3 months since I talked to him but I needed to pay my trash bill so while I was there I thought I'd hit him up again to see if he'd sell some computers. He asked what I was paying and I just blurted out .14 a lb. He thought a minute and asked me how many I wanted, I said a truckload. Don't know if it's still too high a price but I'll see after tearing them all down. Hope I don't lose my shorts.

Well a truckload I got. Any guesses how much weight I have in this Ford Ranger??

Hope your not paying 3.50 a piece. Not much meat left at that price unless your getting more than scrap and there is no way to be sure of that when you buy.

I think I came out ok as about 1/4 of them didn't have their side covers so I wasn't paying .14 a lb for cheap steel. It's from them being tossed around and a couple came out of the rear of a trash truck and they got bent up majorly. When you have to use a tire iron to get the components out you know it's bent up pretty good. Glad there was only a few that way.

I paid for 760 lb of computers and have hauled 480 lb of empty carcasses into the yard. 2 boxes of boards got shipped and there's still cd drives, power supplies, hard drives, and heat sinks to break on down.

You must have a "friendly" trash company, not like mine that is the largest in the world that buys politicians for "kickbacks". So for us still learning E-waste, 23-25 pounds per desktop a good average weight?

I tried for two years to buy complete computers from one of the yards I used to sell to. We went back and forth, at first I offered $4 they wanted $5. When prices started really going south, they offered $4 and I countered with $3, they were buying them for $.06 per pound and then $.04. So I felt I was giving them a chance to double their money. I quit selling them my light steel when they dropped the price to $65 per ton. I would still like to get their computers, but we need to work it out for both of us.
