    Nice to double your money

I needed space, so I had to sell some shred. Mostly computer cases, but some microwaves and other odds and ends. Since I had to sell, i did not bother to check prices, I was resigned to the fact i probably would get .03/lb. Ended up getting .06/lb. Not a ton of weight, but nice to double the amount I was expecting.

Yup, getting more than expected is always nice.

My yard told me they'd drop by 0.25 or even .5 cents per lbs (currently 2.5 cents) latest last Friday (8 days ago).
They have not dropped yet, so I am happy everytime I go there.
I know, it's said to be happy about $50 per ton, but at least I don't depend on the scrap money, it's a just a lil extras spending money for drinks and food etc during the week.

Few months ago I took a small load of motors in, and did not even think I wanted to bother separating them from the shred. Since shred was down to 3 cents back then from 8 at the best, I figured the 15 cents they used to pay is no more than 7-8 cents now. I only had 300 or so lbs of motors. And the line for motors is usually LONG while the shred you drive in, weigh, unload, drive out, weigh again and get paid.

Somehow I decided to go anyway in the long line and was shocked the motors never changed, still 15 cents.

Even 2 weeks ago I took in over 1,000 lbs and still 15 cents.

I guess the worst downs are in the low end stuff like shred etc.

The better materials stayed relatively stable.

Even insulated wire is still 60 cents, was 80 at the peak.

Motors, being made of Copper/Iron, are probably going to India or such.

Theres little or no import dutys on this classification because it provides lots of jobs for low paid workers to seperate the two metals, then more jobs turning these metals into usable steel, pipe, rebar, steel beams etc etc + the Copper manufacturing business..

Even from the start they are paying less than market prices for the Steel/Copper in this form.
So theres plenty of headroom in their price.

Imported products like Copper wire and steel beams have a high import tax on them, but don't provide anywhere near the amount of work and jobs that the scrap motors Steel/Copper does.
