Cool Industries/companies that generate scrap metal

    Hey guys and gals,

I'm looking to expand my business a bit and was seeing if you guys would be able to provide some helpful insight. Obviously industries such as demo companies, electricians, plumbers, fabricators, and such generate scrap metal, but what other kinds of industries/companies generate a lot of scrap? I am looking for some new leads to chase! Thanks in advance for the help

Around my neck of the woods, a mom and pop business is the only place I'm able to get scrap. The larger industries and factories around here all have their own roll-off container sitting out back that goes straight to the shredder. I always had an easy in with the repair garages, since I was in the auto salvage business anyways, I'd sell em used parts and take away the busted parts as I left. Schools and government can be tough since they have surplus protocols they usually have to follow, which means an auction more than likely.

One place I have scored in the past was with real estate companies. They list a property that has some junk on it and want it gone and they dont care how. Got several old school buses this way. You might go leave cards with some of them and tell them to call if they need something cleaned out.

To expand on this theme a little more, open up your business to include clean-out services for the realtors charging them to take everything away, including the trash. Or have them bring in a roll-off and you get paid to fill it. The realtor doesn't want to do that grunt work.

sorry guys, let me be a little more clear. We currently offer a roll off container service and I am looking for more industries/businesses that would generate significant amounts of scrap metal for an industrial account at our yard. We have the ability to handle big companies and lots of scrap

Your local utility companies. Theres a rolloff behind my local power company full of copper ground wire from light poles at the moment. I drooled all over it while I was doing a fire inspection on the place.

Private garbage collection IF they run separate recycling collection...you can try to get their contract for the metal, wiring etc....and really ELECTRONICS is the way to go as well.

    Industries/companies that generate scrap metal

I have seen appliance stores with roll offs for scrap metal. also, many installation companies have roll offs. I was talking to a guy that Installs laundromat equip, and if they are asked to take away old equipment in goes in a roll off.

outdated laundromat..... think stainless, aluminum, 30 lb motors, etc

much money to be had! I also have my card in with a couple of churches I tell them what I do and they call me after the yards sales or when stuff craps out.
