I am up early because I am taking in my third load in the last year and a half. Our prices are half what you are experiencing. My excitement is not about the money, just getting to go to the yard and visit with old friends. If it were not for three reasons, I would not be hauling. 1st the wife wanted a new round pen so some steel had to be moved. Second, the township had a grain bin on the side of the road they wanted removed, so this was a contribution to the community. Third I had to get parts and at least this way part of the gas will be paid for. Unprepared is $ 20 a ton compared to $ 200 a ton when I started. If your still scrapping, you have to love it more than the money.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Got any mrats up there P76?? I actually saw some huts on a few places west of me about 45 minutes. Might set just for a day if we go out there fowling in a couple of weeks. A mrat will probably be worth 20-25 lbs of steel this year to a country buyer, maybe 75-100% more if I sell to auction (which I would). But still not enough to pay for 2 round-trips in 2 days setting the 6 or so huts I saw. But maybe enough to scratch a tiny bit of my trapping itch

Not many muskrat huts around here because everything dried up this summer.

Hauled that load in today and big surprise. Any ferrous metal is $ 10 per ton. Six tons, $ 60. No difference between unprepared, cars, combines, etc. Everything considered they bought me a six pack of beer for my time, expense, and efforts. The wife will have to deal with the steel, the township will have to wait to clean up the rest of their mess, and I hope I will not need anymore parts in the near future.

Patriot, I know how ya feel. I got a whopping $50/ton for my meager load yesterday. It was mixed with prepared and shred.
Didn't have a lot to haul but threw some alum and copper wire in the back of the truck. Got $67 for the trailer full and another $39 for my non ferrous. The hundred mile trip (one way) was filled with other reasons to go. I'm now telling everyone that I'll pick up their junk but can't pay for it as my local yard won't pay for shred either.
