Hi everyone,

I was wondering if any of you explored abandoned buildings for the sake of it?



While they can be a nice playground for any scrapper, they are also fun for historical reasons & also to take pictures.

Please be wary of exploring abandoned buildings. Two concerns come to light and the first is safety. Abandoned buildings are full of dangers including plenty of exposure without any warning. Second is being on property without permission. Be careful.

Definitely thought about it several times out of nothing but curiosity (certainly not to do any scrapping). As Patriot76 pointed out, one big thing that has kept me out is to avoid getting arrested.

I've done it lots. No for scrapping, more for photography. My instagram is full of it. Love the history and exploring old places. I understand the risks but its worth it to me. Most trouble Iv gotten in, and all the cops can really do is slap a $60 trespassing fine on you. Here in Ontario anyways.

My advice to any one looking to that would find out what your states trespass laws are so you know exactly what you can do legally or how much trouble you are going to get into for any given scenario.

Yep. I would be afraid of getting shot or jumped by homeless people.

As a kid I would explore abandoned home in the area I lived. There were several homes that had been abandoned that I would go to. One was old, old, old abandoned. I found a paper covering a shelf from 1919.

Another home was old, but not as old. It was a huge two story farmhous with all the furniture and belongings and the roof had caved as well as the 2nd floor through the livingroom. In that I found a paper covering a shelf dated from 1943. That was really cool to look through.

The third was a home that looked like a family had just walked out of and just left everything behind. It had been poured over and the contents strewn about as people had looked for goodies. I looked the place over and asked myself where I would hide something. Imean I stood in the place and looked it over and thought of the place I would hide something in the house I didn't want found. I walked over to the closet, opened the door, and reached around the corner and found a hole that contained a box full of jewelry. Not the crown jewels, mind you, but a box of jewelry. Two gold cufflinks with a center diamond I sold to a pawn shop for maybe $10 or so.... I wanted some money for a couple packs of smokes and an afternoon of asteroids. I really could not believe I had outsmarted the all the people who had ravaged the house prior to my exploration.

I would love to be a kid again.

I've peeked in a few, metal detected around some.

There is one though not far away...I was told about it years ago, some local guy everyone used to know "Joe Smith" loved his Ford's, had a 36? started running with the wrong people, maybe doing things he shouldn't have, trying to make money.

He traded the 36 on a new 40 something, showed it off to everyone, and was later found dead in the burnt up shell of his new car. No one knew what happened. The house had a lot of renters come and go afterwards, finally was abandoned and what's left of it is slowly going back to nature, it's hard to even see what's left of it now. I've detected around it, never finding anything but trash, but kid spotted what looked like a wallet laying on the dirt floor of the basement while looking through the doorway.

SO went in to retrieve it, and it was a moldy old wallet, a couple of bills inside dating from the late 30's-40's...later we found a slip tucked deep inside with "Joe Smith's" name on it to transfer the plates from one 36 Ford to one 40 something Ford.

Always thought the story was something to scare kids away from the place. I still have the wallet, all we could figure is that it must have been tucked up in the rafters or inside a wall or something, and fell to the basement floor when the house started caving in.

yes haha my parents own a camp on a lake and there is an abandoned camp there that was abandoned in the early 2000's. I will admit I have taken scrap from it. HOWEVER!!!!! only because we are part owners of it. the camps on the lake are owned by a condominium being part of the condo makes us part owners. Also the camp has recently been demolished so theres nothing left of it. found some nice stuff inside an old lite light up sign and an old railroad lantern both were not scrapped

I love this site, he's toured a lot of places I would have loved to take a peek at if I wasn't afraid of getting caught or falling down a hole in the floor alone since no one here shares my fascination of old abandoned places. LOL
