Stumped the scrap yard - Picture added #24

So, was taking a walk in the creek on my parents property and came across a huge chunk of something - I assumed it was cast it didn't stick and was freaking heavy, about 12 inches around little bigger than a basketball. It was a formed piece you could see what looked to be metal plates in between the round parts (just guessing on that but they didn't stick either). Scrap yard ground it and put his gun to it and it came up as 95% aluminum but he said you know its not since it sparked when the grinder was on it. The ground area was a dull silver metal color. He said he almost thought it was ceramic it was so hard but I didn't think ceramic was that color gray. Anywho, he couldn't take it because whatever it was made up of wasn't in his x-ray gun program. I now have a chunk of space debris as I will just call it sitting in my flower garden. He said I could take it to be tested but its expensive to do that so I will just live with the curiosity factor! Stumped the junk man! it's nice being on the other side of that part of scrapping!!

scrub it down and start looking for any marks or numbers then look around for any industrial history of the area you found it at.

Here is a little info on the XRF guns and OES guns:

I'm sure you could find out more on that site if you looked.

I'll try this but it's so rusted (I'm assuming its rust) I hope I don't end up scrubbing something important off if there are any numbers on it. My cheesy phone doesn't take pictures but I'll see if I can borrow my brothers and take a picture.

Sometimes wiping some oil on a spot of interest will help to see whats there without removing material. A good magnifying glass comes in handy too.

If it were a meteorite it would have read as iron/nickel.

^^c4f5, that's what my mom thinks it is so hopefully I can get it clean enough to tell. I hate to pay to test it since its so expensive so I had a thought - wondering if the local Joint vocational school has any kind of class/lab to do it for free as part of their learning experience.
