I get a lot of this type of memory in usually busted up like the boards so no real resale, definitely is heavier so I like that for scrap pricing as for more gold content I have no idea, this like this I have tried selling on ebay but no luck for more than scrap prices at least say $2lb or more vs. $13.50 base price for memory, now ewasted on boards offers vintage pricing, a lot of older boards i get mid grade telecom so i don't mind a few extra pounds of memory that old going in as they are amazing

Surprised no one bit yet.......I usually just ship to buyers here on forum but all the talk about the value of old computer parts made me throw this up on the Ebay.......I'll let it ride I don't have alot into the lot

I get a lot of the older memory also. The color of the gold plating seems to be darker than gold plating on the newer boards.
I always wondered if the older memory had a higher gold content.
Maybe Scott will see this and respond. I'll bet he knows.

It's been a while, but I've done a couple of scrap RAM lots on eBay in the past. I've found that it's best to use a Buy-It-Now that's more than what buyers here are offering. If nobody bites, then off to the buyer here it is!

I pulled a pound or two of gold pins off old water district computers. The computers date 1970's and I want to very much say the gold plating is extra thick. So I don't want to sell at $.60/lb. This was my very first ewaste so I had no idea to just leave the mobo's intact.
These computers had many of the white, gold plated IBM eproms (or flat back chips?), and I busted them up to try to get the gold out. At a later date, I saw these chips selling at something like $100/lb.
Rookie mistake.. I still kick myself in the arse for that one
On auctions I tend to have a start price I will be happy with selling at. Most of my listings are just "Buy iit Now".
My quick calculations make me think you would have been better off selling on one of the buyers on the forum.

Well in Mike's defense. People have been going RAM crazy on Ebay.. Paying $16-$17 a lb!!! So he took a risk.. that could have paid off handsomely! Sadly on this auction it didn't work out.
He took a shot.. got to give him props for that!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

No worries here......The Buyers on the Forum who receive my memory (they know who they are).....will continue to receive shipments as usual.......So far the guy has not paid and yes by my calculations that was a low price for what I listed........USPS going up on all there rates does not help...........Either way I have won more than I have lost on ebay and it was an experiment to see if this THICK DOUBLE SIDED RAM would bring some UN-GODLY amount which it DIDN't.....LOL

the only difference I see is that you must have started your auction at a higher price.......Mine was an experiment to see if the thick stuff would bring more money so the only way I saw to get a fair market value was to start at .99........All good and glad you sold yours MIKE!!!!!!!!!!!Originally Posted by miked

That RAM looked interesting, but now way to know what it is meant for or what type it is (which means few collectors will bother with it). Ebay gives you more free pictures doesn't it? A close up showing chip numbers would have helped.

Cool. I also was testing the market to see I I could improve on the price I get from my buyer since gold has gone up recently. I did not get what I consider a worth while price. Its just so much easier to send off to my buyers knowing all is well. On eBay there are risks that a buyer can ripe you off and it be a total loss plus the costs of shipping.
My response was "intended" to show more evidence of the market on ebay for scrap ram. I know is Mike is very experienced but I did include statements and information that I consider important for inexperienced folks to know. I have not mentioned this before but I do tend to answer questions or make comments directed not just at the individual but also the rest of the readers. I may have come off as if I was assuming Mike couldn't do the the math no so.
Ebay pushes hard to start auctions at 99 cents. I am not starting at that price for any of my items. The difference in my mind is generally what I sell is used stuff that not everyone needs. Because of this I run most as buy now, for 10 days with auto relist X 2. That gives me a month of near the top of the lists. With auctions my starting price is the least I am willing to accept for an item that way I am not disappointed.
I will say again its great that members here share what works and what does not do as well. 73, Mike
