The SMF buyer search feature will make it easier for members and guests to find the buyer(s) they need, without searching through each thread individually. This means more exposure for everyone, and an easier user experience for members/guests looking to sell their scrap.
This thread is specifically about how it works, and how to make sure your thread (if you're a buyer on the forum) is included in the results. Here's how it works:
If someone is interesting in selling scrap CPUs, they would click the CPUs link and be shown all the buyers who are buying CPUs.
If someone is interested in selling catalytic converters, they would click the 'catalytic converters' link and be shown all buyers who are buying catalytic converters.
If someone is interested in selling cell phones, they would click the 'cell phones' link and be shown all buyers who are buying cell phones. Etc etc etc.
How to TAG your Buyer thread with items you buy
If you have a buyer thread,
your thread will not be included automatically until you manually TAG your thread with each item you want to be listed under.
Follow the steps below to add tags your thread:
Step 1 - Visit your advertisement thread that you have in the Buyers and Sellers section.
Step 2 - Scroll almost all the way down the page, and click the 'Add/Edit Tags' button in the "Tags for this Thread" box. This box is underneath the 'quick reply' and 'thread information' boxes near the bottom of the page.
Step 3 - Add your tags! You must only use tags that are included in the SMF Buyer Finder box at the top of this page.
For example, if you enter 'computers' as one of your thread tags, your thread will be included in the results when somebody clicks the 'computers' link from the list.
If you enter multiple tags ie, computers, CPUs, hard drives, your thread will be included in the results of all 3 tags.
You may include up to 25 tags per thread.
Do not include tags for items you do not offer to buy.
Regarding thread promotions - I've had a couple inquiries regarding how thread promotions are affected. When a thread is bumped not only is your thread promoted to the first position on the full list of buyers on the main page, and in the forum sidebar on the forum homepage (this remains the same), your thread will
ALSO automatically be promoted to the first position for each individual category/tag your thread is tagged with as well.
