    Posting links from external sites

Is it just me or are links being posted not appearing correctly?

I don't know the correct technical lingo, somebody help me out.

Instead of links having the source, followed by the story title like so:

keloland - cop helps autistic child

    links are showing up like:

    http://www.keloland.com-cop-helps-blahblahblah&$&$&$$&$&

Noticed this on other people's posts lately too. Maybe since server upgrade???

Thanks for pointing this out Pjost!

You are correct, I have just fixed that. Links are only adjusted at the time they're posted (unless you edit existing posts with via the advanced editor and re-save it.)

    Admin-
I have a question as well. On my thread "Sledge's Thread" Most of my pics are now all gone in the thread. They are all from Facebook from my account there. Any ideas on that issue?
    Thanks

Looks like the URLs of your photos on Facebook have changed.

IE, I looked at the image URL of the first image in your thread, which is

https://scontent-b-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/...06692454_n.jpg (it says content not found)

This image does not seem to exist, or the URL to the image has changed. The only way to fix that, would be to update your images with whatever the actual URL is on Facebook.

Why Facebook doesn't redirect the old URLs after changing them to something else, I don't know.

When viewing the image on Facebook, right-click on it and select "copy image URL".

Alternatively, you can also upload your photos to your posts as attachments instead which would prevent that from happening in the future.

Stinkin Facebook. I wondered if they had changed the URL's possibly.. But I think I may just have to upload them as you said instead of linking them. I figured it was easier to let Fb have them stored on THEIR server instead of yours.

But now I see the error in that philosophy!
    Thanks for the reply!

That's why I use Photobucket that way I control the movement of my pic's.

The same happens with Photobucket sometimes. All it takes is for the site to change one element of their URLs to cause old image links not to work (because the actual URL to the image is now different). The images might be in the same place in regards to your Photobucket account, however it doesn't mean the link will remain the same. The problem is sometimes the sites don't properly redirect old image URLs to load the correct URLs if they changed.

For example, if the URL to one of your images on photobucket is:
    Code:
    photobucket.com/mechanic/images/your-image-here.jpg
And for some reason they change their URL structure so the URL to your image becomes:
    Code:
    photobucket.com/users/mechanic/img/album/your-image-here.jpg
If photobucket (or Facebook) doesn't have a script in place to load the correct image when and if the OLD url format is used, the images will stop working.

Using attachments is usually the most reliable method of including pictures.

    Admin,

So if I understand you correctly, we can now upload images to the SMF server rather than having to use other photo hosting locations like Photobucket?

Did this change with the new server installation?

    Jon.

I'm also trying to figure out how to attach an image to my post now? If you click an image link above here it asks for a URL.. which is what we are trying to avoid it being posted from another URL.
Help for the aging computer dunce here?

That is correct. And nope, attachments have been available for quite a while. Maybe it was just mentioned in an update to a thread but didn't ever end up having its own.

If you click "go advanced" on the post editor, there is an option to upload attachments. They will display at the end of your post (full-size). I'll look into if there's something I can do for the insert image button. I thought there was something but it was pretty clunky, I'll have to check.
