Great idea! Wouldn't mind having a place on here to buy and sell trailers, trucks, etc.

    Well, since you asked...

It is such a pita to post pictures on here, even when you know how to do it. I learned how to do it, I can do it, but I generally won't. Just too involved.

Other websites I deal with I can simply drag and drop a picture in. Any plans on adding that functionality?

    Non public = paid membership.

The classifieds section is for that. There are both 'for hire' and 'help wanted' thread prefix options in that section.

I would suggest truck talk. Like a little section to talk about trucks, There could be a Chevy, Ford, and Dodge section, Diesel, and all other trucks. I see alot of people talking about them, I really think the category would boom with a lot of active postings. I mean heck what is a scrapper without a truck?

I would like to see a section on business ethics.

A section on ethical business practices being actively discussed will not only allow people to ask and post their questions and opinions, but put them on record as well as to how they intend to conduct themselves so far as their business is concerned.

This can be accessed by customers or other people who intend to do business with a specific individual or business that belongs to this forum and have posted on the ethics thread. There could even be a sub section for people who wished to post their own best business practices.

I see no downside to a section like this, but I do so many benefits. Besides individual standards, the accumulated information can also set a general standard that people just entering into this market might find useful. There are only laws set by governments, no rules, no guidelines, but instead a loose code of conduct that scrappers, and refiners for that matter kind of follow. It would be useful in this section as well if specific questions of ethics and morals in conducting business could be posed, and accumulated, and continually published so that there was a more clearly defined code of conduct that the majority of people agree upon. Our own code of conduct created by the people who are members of this forum. The first of it's kind. If we are setting our own rules perhaps city, county, state and maybe even federal governments will refer to this community when considering passing specific laws.

Many of the subjects talked about on this forum touch on this subject, and some clearly define what people believe are right or wrong. It would be nice if they were all collected in one section as well.

    Just my two cents

At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes--an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counterintuitive they may be, and the most ruthless skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are winnowed from deep nonsense. -- Carl Sagan

You're right it couldn't hurt, I'll run it by Andrew. Do you suppose it would fit best in the 'scrap metal basics' section down bottom or the 'business' section?

We added this business ethics category. Scrap Business Ethics - Scrap Metal Forum

Feel free to start discussions. We will move ethics/conduct related threads here as we come across them. In the meantime if you come across a thread that belongs in this section and hasn't already been moved there, help us out by using the /!\ report button and let us know it should be moved.

I would like to suggest a chat room type of section. This would be a place for random or amusing conversation that wouldn't require starting a thread and the posts would scroll off so they wouldn't be a permanent part of the forum. This would be a lively, fun place to put stuff that doesn't need to be saved and wouldn't clog up the informational threads.

Just a little thing maybe, but how about a "thanks" button on the mobile app. I'm sure some of us use their phones more than desktop.

    Lightbulb Less Restrictions For Newbies

Being a Newbie to this forum (at the time of writing this message), I was surprised by how restricted I was, especially with the threads in the SMF Support area.

Some of my ideas for making the site and in particular, the Support threads easier for Newbies to use include

    1. Making threads posted in the Support area exempt from Moderator/Admin approval. This will allow the forum's experienced & long time members to help out the Newbies, potentially eliminating extremely long wait times for the posts to be approved
    2. Allowing Newbies to upload attachments in the Support Area so we can better explain our issues. Visual aids are some of the best things that can help solve an issue.
    3. Removing minimum post requirements for some of the most commonly used forum features such as signatures and personal text.
    4. Have unapproved threads visible to the person who created them.

Just an opinion without any solid basis.

The spam comes across more as a DNS attack of sorts. Somebody awfully wants to be the center of attention. They can't have their way so they trash the place for everyone else.

Then ... some new guy that we've never heard of before comes along and says " Come to my site " .... here's a link.

I think i'll avoid that one like the plague. It might be a certain someone that has a history of harassing the other members here.

Less than an hour after joining, I realised that something wasn't right because of all the spam and links to purchase fake money. I now know why newbies have so many account restrictions.

To each their own. My original plan was to just maintain the site and keep it clean but let the old guard here basically run the show. The old guard doesn't seem to want to hop off the sinking ship. So... meh, it is what it is.
