Palm Pilots and hand held devices

Ok, I've looked around the forum and I came up with two threads concerning Palm devices (Palm Pilot, Palm III, etc.).

My question is, does anyone buy these? Can you share the prices?

I had a long discussion with the scrap yard manager and I have worked out a deal with him. I want to make sure that I did ok. I believe I did.

If no one is buying these, I may have to put up a buyers ad in the buyers section.

    Thanks!

    Ken

Never taken one apart, but aren't they similar to smart phones? Hardware could be a bit different from when these were popular, but they're not entirely too old.

yes. They are similar to cell phones inside. The few I've opened had a very nice board and a mid-grade board. Some have batteries, some take AA batteries, and I'm sure there are others as well. Then of course there is the screen which my yard takes as shred. I'm trying to make a per piece deal with the yard and then I can buy per piece as opposed to per pound. Just thinking about it at this point...

I think I have a few Dell- Axims somewhere. I'll have to open one up and check it out.

I'm thinking of offering $1 a piece. I know that I can buy them for this locally and I would be the highest buyer around (except my yard). Too high? Too low?

For some reason I have only gotten Axims, but I sold them for $10 each to someone that was looking for them specifically.

For scrap, have you tried to determine an average value of the components in them? I would do this before you start buying. I really can't advise on the value since I have nothing to reference.

I would take a bunch of them apart, group material in like piles, and average the weight out for the different materials. Then see what you can get for the materials.

    -or-

See what you can get for them whole. They could be worth less than cell phones per pound assuming they don't need the gold RF shielding that cell phone components do.

Yeah, I've done that. There really is only boards and sometimes a battery (a small li-ion). The only shred is the screen (unless there is somewhere else I can sell them) and four really tiny screws. Then, the plastic.

I hope that $10 was for working, usable units? if that was for the scrap...wow! I haven't opened up an axim.

I really don't know, I didn't test them! He was wanting them for some project he was working on. They can probably still be useable still. When I had one it had wifi and bluetooth on it.

Where can you sell them? I have a few Palms and odd mp3 players that I'd be happy to get out of my storage.

fivegallonbucket, I pm'ed you. I haven't found a buyer for my palms except my yard. I'm going to be checking with a couple of buyers on this forum tomorrow to see how they treat them.
