need opinion of selling escrap

I found this e scrap buying website that a buddy of mine uses regularly and the prices on their e buying list seems pretty fair to me. I know they are a legit company because my buddy uses them all the time. I live in florida and I think its worth it for the lower part of the US so shipping out the items wont cost too much as to sending it up north to the other companies that i know of. I have seen some better prices elseware but the cost to ship to them would cost me twice as much to the other places... Any opinions?

We don't know what you're selling, so your mileage may vary.

Low grade boards aren't worth shipping, but their RAM prices are a joke. They're paying half of what some of our buyers here on the forum are. I've shipped 30 pounds of RAM in a large flat rate box (Around $17)- it's usually worth shipping.

I'd go for one of the buyers here. The prices are better, and shipping isn't too bad (Some of the buyers offer a discount).

most of their ewaste prices are crap. Last time I sent a load...I think it was 150 lbs in 3 boxes to eWasted form GA...it ran me .30/lb. I sent mid grade an up to him and Mario's prices smoked most others. There are a few things I do send to others and one in particular that is a buyer on here (he had KILLER prices on the monitor boards (the X/Y board I believe it was), so sending those to him.

Check their prices against yours....use Ewasted's shipping rates...they are better than your most likely. Bet you will find you are STILL on the upside...

AGAIN, this is my reasonably extensive experience, YMMV

Looks like that guy is making roughly 50% margin and in a lot of cases.. BETTER than 50% when he re-sells everything upstream from his buys!

There are a couple of well known buyers on here- one was already mentioned in this thread. He offers prepaid shipping, which is worth it for lots that are fairly large. For the really large loads, we have an excellent person on here in the buyer's section that can help to arrange LTL pallet shipping. I've used him for the 1000# lots, Ewasted's prepaid shipping for the 200-300# lots, and if it's just RAM, you'd be amazed at what I can cram into a large flat rate box....

Outside of Ben Weitsman/Upstate Shredding(because I'm always in constant contact with them), I wouldn't trust any other buyers except the ones on here. They've been doing this a while and know what's what. Something feels off about their site...

If you can graduate to pallet loads you will discover some real savings on shipping. I advise holding onto what you have for now. Study the threads both the ewaste and the buyers and make your well informed decision. Good luck, work hard. Mike

Just a quick question about sorting escrap.

I got the impression from one escrap buyers site that "if boards are not seperated properly, its going to cost the seller a lot of his profits"
The last thing they wanted to deal with was 'A fruit salad of escrap'......

So, I know to seperate all of the 'Hard drive boards' from the 'CD ROM boards' into seperate boxes.

But, should I sperate all of the 'Hard drive boards' into 'Identical Hard Drive boards' and put them in plastic bags and then put all of those bags into the same box, labeled "Hard drive boards - seperated by shape" ?
(shape - model - sort - production run..??)

I get the impression they can find out exactly the amount of Gold/precious metals in each production run.
And if they seperate all of the production runs, they can then tell exactly how much Gold they are going to get out of them.
By doing this they do not 'over reclaim' their extraction of Gold from each run.

So, 1, Just seperate all the 'Hard drive boards' into one box. All mixed up.

2. Seperate all of the 'Hard drive boards' into seperate catagorys based on shape, and put all of the hard drive board catagorys into their own box labeled 'Hard drive boards' as before.

1. ALL hard drive boards together. Mother boards can be separated by different types. I put very similar boards together.

No problem and if you are interested in the question of how much should you put into a box to ship ewaste is answered in several threads. I wish I could tell you which ones.

So why would you want to know how much weight to put into a Fedex box?? Well if it over a certain weight you pay an extra charge. My recollection is about 65lbs is at or near the mark not to go over but its best to do you own research.

By the way these numbers are not easy to find on Fedex's website. Good luck, Mike

68 pounds is ideal for FedEx.

For RAM, my record is 34 pounds in the large flat rate box. It was as solid as a brick, but some of my RAM fell over. If it was all perfectly aligned, I think I could have put 36 or 37 pounds in there. For $17, that's not bad!
