What about a step van? I paid $580 for this one. Dovebid.com has auctions every month.

Even though it's a '92, I believe it's been upgraded to a 6.5 GM diesel. Drove it 2 hours home. Runs great. Is noisy though since you're basically driving an empty metal box down the road.

If you want to haul big loads of metal get yourself at least a 20 footer even that probably will fill up fast. I know the 16 foot I have fills up pretty fastt and doesn't take as much weight as I would like.

Step vans are good or maybe one of those short school buses. You could put all the windows down and have a nice breeze. Plus you could scrap all the seats. That's a nice step van, comgrats.

Needed to replace the batteries on the work box truck, 4 cyl turbo. Two huge farm/commercial batteries at $120 each. OUCH!

Tinnmann, I'm hauling e-waste and would like to keep it out of the rain, plus I could lock it up incase I had to leave the truck to go into a store or something. I have a pick-up for hauling metals. Plus a box truck could also help with storage at times. Sounds like maintance would be expensive.

If it were me, I would look into an enclosed trailer. That way, you still have your work truck for tools and other stuff AND you get to keep your ewaste dry. Just my humble opinion. Also, any time you buy a pre-owned rental truck, you have to remember that hundreds if not thousands of different people have driven-abused that vehicle. Even if the maintenance program is top notch, you will still have a huge possibility of a lot of problems, just from all the different driving styles that have been forced upon it.

Hope my little bit of advice \ knowledge can help you. Peace!

People drive rentals like they stole them. No care for beating on the engine, the transmission, the brakes, or anything else.

When uhaul trucks go up for sale, it's because they've reached the end of life mileage, maintenance levels or age according to uhaul's standards.

If you buy a uhaul box truck, prepare to own and pay to maintain a truck that has been beat into the ground by virtually everybody who ever used it.

I got my eye on a dump truck with a crane attached. If it goes for the right price It's time to make a move.
