    box truck

I'm saving up money to buy a box truck and was wondering if anybody has ever bought a used U-haul truck, if so was it worth the money you paid for it. What should I look out for?

If i were going to buy a used uhaul dont buy the van body type. They are a PITA to work on. Also my dad use to have a uhaul rental place and the fleet maintenance wasnt te best on them. I dont think the trucks get the regular service they need to be honist.

depends, most of the time uhaul wants more than they are worth. Get maintenance/repair records.

Cruise your local CL. I see them all the time.

If I was going to get one, I'd want one with a lift gate. Search CL by liftgate or lift gate. Also box van, box truck, delivery van, etc

Might try looking for a "Ryder rental" truck, they have a whole lot better maintenance schedule.

Just understand the TCO (total cost of ownership) on box trucks. Its not like buying a car and driving off of the lot and using it.

They usually have over 200,000 on em. I see a few curbside pickers using em around here. They cut the roofs of off them, then weld a support bar across the top back corners. Then they put swing doors on the back. http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/...7/IMAG0490.jpg saw one of the regulars on my way to work this morning.

they don't want to hit the proverbial scrapper glass ceiling? Besides sky is the limit when you don't have a roof.

I am liking the enclosed truck much better these days. Seems even with a tarp some chit goes flying out. Styrofoam bits, dirt, leaves, etc.

A lot of people rent uhaul/budget/etc trucks semi-permanantely for business since the cost of upkeep and ownership is so much.

Thank you everybody for your input. It sounds like u-haul is out, I might try looking into other rental trucks. I would not cut the top off, the reason for a box truck would be to keep the rain off my e-waste plus I could haul more now that my busness is taking off. I might also look into the lease opption.

If you have a pickup truck allready a good trailer would be an option as well. A whole lot cheaper as well for those bigger runs.
