Ok folks. I haven't read every thread, but i don't need to. A company called Tti in China now owns most of the big ones and many are EXACTLY the same. Fight me all u want on this, you'll learn... Ridgid is same as Dewalt. I have a set of Bosch right now that are phenominal, but honestly, bang for buck is Ridgid and their brushless drills (Li-ion). I'm a fulltime carpenter and we abuse the crap out of these things, there's no argument. Look em up; find out which ones are selling you a nametag, so far, Ridgid wins. Plus, you can't beat the warranty. Do it.

dont laugh but has anyone ever tried this? is it a waste of money? 4.8 Volt Cordless Screwdriver Kit i have all kinds of large heavy drills but having been eying this one for light work. i can picture having to switch to the heavy one every 4th screw but it would be lovely on my neck at just over a pound.

I wouldn't bother with it when another $10 gets you this one? Yes, it's a little bit heavier but one heck of a lot more powerful.

Makita is the best cordless drill out there.
Sears has Dewalt drills with waranty for a little extra $.
IDK whether they even check the serial # when one is returned, I knew a guy who had four dewalts and waranty on ONE and each time one broke, they gave him a new one, and like a whole crew was using them daily...
Anyway, I personally hate batteries, but a power inverter (12V- 120V) to power the corded drills and angle grinders costs more than the cordless stuff...
There's also a regulator out there (about 100psi from CO2) to connect paintball tanks to air-tools seems worth looking into(?)

I guess what I was trying to say is that a big reason I go for ridgid is because it has the best warranty and the easiest warranty to cash in, just take it to the service desk at HD and they will take care of the warranty process

I have a new favorite impact drill!
Milwaukee M18 Brushless impact driver, 18 volt, lithium ion, no. 2653-20, 2900 RPM, torque 1600 lbs, 50% more run time, 3x longer motor life, and a 3-mode drive control.
I had the 18v Ridgid Lithium ion impact driver which I really liked but, the battery charger went out and I turned it in under warranty and it is still getting processed. Since then I decided to buy the milwaukee brushless m18 impact driver which is great! I already had one m18 battery and charger that I got from a client so, all I had to do is buy the tool for $140. Wow! this thing runs forever. If you arent familiar with brushless technology, it uses a computer chip instead of brushes that produce those sparks inside the drill. Because it is brushless the run time is incredible! I can use it all day with the smaller m18 battery and still have some energy at the end of the day. I just charge it at night and then can us it all the next day. I will not need to buy a second battery to charge while I am using the first battery because the brushless drill uses a lot less energy. Also the motor is supposed to last a lot longer because it isnt supposed to heat up. So far, I love this tool.
If you get a chance and can afford it, I recommend the Milwaukee BRUSHLESS M18 impact driver. It has to be the brushless one, there is a milwaukee M18 with brushes (Im sure that is a great tool also) so try not to get them confused.
I read lots of review on the new brushless impacts and the only one I found that might be better than the Milwaukee M18 brushless is the DeWalt 20v Brushless impact driver. The DeWalt one has some features that I like better like the lighting system (three LED lights that eliminate shadows), it is smaller, and has a bit release trigger. I have never used the brushless dewalt but, the reviews look really good. The only draw back is that it is a little more expensive for the DeWalt.
I have a question for Bgregory, Ridgid has a brushless drill? I looked for it and couldnt find it anywhere.

Still think it's great. I'm using the two standard batteries that came with it. I'll use the charge of one in a day so having a second one is good. I expect I'll be getting the XC battery for Christmas, though.
Glad to hear you're liking the 18 volt, Mrsamsanite. I thought about going with it but I thought the 12 volt would be plenty for what I do. I'm finding that it is.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

im glad you likem, like i said earlier i recommend the3/8 ratchet, i bought the 12v hackzall i dont recommend it, let me know about the bigger battery, i got around 10 of the standard ones but like you say they last really well.

I like the Hitachi Impact. I've never used one for an extended period, on and off at best, but one of my buddies who used to work the teardown line with me actually preferred it over our Ingersoll Rand air tools.
Thing was FAST, when you depressed the trigger it actually STOPPED SPINNING, and his charge lasted for an 8 hour shift no problem.

I have to say I have a variety of drills .and for a good multi purpose drill my craftsman c3 19.2 volt has held up well .I bought it as soon as It came out and its still running good.it has been droped ,soaked, thrown and more lol .and still works great .I have only ever had 1 battery die on me.my only complaint is it does not have enough torgue .but it has only been a inconvenience twice in many years.
