Homemade pickup truck dump insert.

I was checking out the web for a dump insert for my pickup and the PRICE is way to high for me.
Anyone who build a dump insert like the digger dog etc can you post photos for your unit.
I am going to try to design a low cost dump bed insert for my pickup and will post links etc of it.
Any help in the first stage of the design will help.

My working load is 1000lbs or 1/2 ton dump capacity and light weight.

What size truck is it going in?

What dimensions?

You going to put it in the pickup bed? Or make the pick up bed dump?

Going electric, pto, or manual power?

I am going to make one like the EZ-Dumper but I will use an electric winch for simplicity and cost to lift the dump bed.
I will be making one to fit a longbed F 150
As with the EZ-Dumper, I can remove the unit and still have a pickup.
Most of the parts I will be using will be scrap parts.

You are wasting your time. Just buy a cheap dump truck.

Let's think here. You are putting it in a f150. So by time you put this heavy dump insert in the bed you will already have it overloaded. If it was a 1ton I would say go for it. Otherwise just get a trailer.

Good used dump trailer. If you only have a 150 you can get a smaller single axle trailer. They are much cheaper than the heavy duty tandems.

otp57, the system in this article uses the "back em up and slam on the brakes" method.....kinda scary but he gives some insight on his design with rails and casters

the system i think you want to design involves using your electric hoist to lift & tilt the bed insert up.....lots of engineering for the sky crane

why not rig up a way to use your hoist to back out the insert slowly to the tipping point in a more controlled manor ?

well that's sure a hek of a place to dump that wood, right out in middle of a field

I had one of the dump bed inserts a few years, ago. Found it in an old IH pickup at a local junkyard and paid $350 for it. It worked pretty good unless you overloaded it. I used it for about five years and then sold it for twice what I paid.

Here's a link to a dump bed conversion that might interest you. It gives you ideas on building your own setup, at least. I have seen guys do this conversion from scratch using old hydraulic parts and some scrap steel.
