Grinder or Sawsaw. Which one first?

Looking to get some sort of cutter. Which would you recommend first.

Ok, that is what I was thinking. Hardware store is having a sale on a lot of items and I can snag a grinder for $17.00. I haven't had to do a lot of cutting yet, but when I have, I borrowed a saw to do it. But I am looking to get more items of my own so when I need it, I have it.

I use a sawzall. I haven't found anything it can't cut, plus when the blade need to be replaced I can recycle the old blade.

My Sawzall runs at least an hour a day. My grinders probably don't see that in an average week. When getting a sawzall for scrap work, don't bother with a generic one, unless you plan to afford a good one within a few months.

I was going through a cheap one every 4-6 months. My Milwaukee has been going strong for about 3 years now.

Thicker metal I like the grinder but thinner stuff I like the sawzaw with a good blade...no sparks either.

I have 3 or so grinder and 2 sawzall's. my grinders are in my toolbox and havnt been touched in months, and my sawzall stays on the bench. i use my sawzall a lot but i also use my bench grinder just as much...

I'm going to buy a sawzall instead of a grinder today because of this thread haha. Any specific brands I should go for?

I personally like my old 20 some year old Milwaukee Sawzall. It has done everything I have asked of it including chopping the top on a racecar. Mike

I prefer my grinder with cutoff wheel over a sawzall any day. Slices through everything faster than I've been able to do so with the sawzall.

went through a few generics. i like my Milwaukee. $150 well spent

If you're broke, you could get a cheapo of each, then upgrade later.

Allow me to boast about my milwaukee sawzall I pulled out of a junkpile at the recycling yard I go to. The sorter that was working beside me said "Its yours, good find."

This right here. I have made more money with that little HF cutoff tool than should be allowed by law. If you have shop air, get one. You will not be disappointed. I see them a few times a year in the $5-7 range with a coupon. Get decent wheels though as the HF ones are sub-par. Their air body saw I have had nothing but problems with. The cutoff tool....love it.

guys im new to this only been doing it a few months but i have an industrial grinder metabo i think is the brand and dewalt 18v recip saw and a porter cable 18v saw. all three are priceless to me. i also have a victor torch but never use it. i have a tool that you all need to check out if you have the means as they are very pricey. the 2stroke concrete saw is my favorite tool mine is the wacker brand you put a 14in chop saw blade on it and i swear you can cut the front end out of a car in 30 seconds giving you access to the whole front of the car for easy work. we cut up a double wide house trailer frame using only 3 blades and a gallon of gas or right about 20 bucks. wacker stihl husqvarna makita are the brands i know about and i got mine at a local pawn shop for 400. husqvarna makes an electric version that i would love to have very soon.

The Harbor freight rotating head sawzall is pretty good, I've had mine for 6 months to a year and still going strong. $25 bux with a magazine coupon.
