Junkdude, Im not showing off, i was simply answering the question. I also do this on a slightly larger scale than some, and you have to have the right equipment. I also dont really mess around with non ferrous too much. I scrapped around 700 tons of steel last year, and only saved some of the non ferrous. By the end, I had made enough with the non ferrous to buy the Ford flatbed.

I cant count the number of torches, saws, grinders, cutters, and other small tools needed, but I have to in order to stay profitable. If someone calls me up and said I have an oven or a fridge or even a car, I dont waste my time. I cant make money on such a small scale.

Main scrap rig is a '96 Nissan Quest with both bench seats removed. I've had as much as 2 dishwashers, a dryer, an elliptical and some other small junk. Granted it was mostly disassembled, smashed down.

On larger loads I have access to a '02 Chevy 2500, a skidsteer trailer, skidsteer with grapple attachment and dump trailer.

Used to have an '88 Chevy excab dually w/ 454, but I just couldn't afford to feed the beast any more.

'94 Ranger 6ft bed 2.3 4 cyl easy to get stuff besides its a little lower to the ground to flip stuff. 25-30 MPG cant beat it. Had 1300 lbs in it for my biggest load now I just go to U-haul and get a trailer, with a trailer I had 2500lbs.

    Dodge Dakota 6 banger with a tandem axle 6 x 12 trailer.

I hate the thing but it gets the job done (for now) but sure sucks down the gas.

1995 Ford Cargo Van and 16 ft duel axle trailer. Van works for most things and since there are no windows in the back...once the loot is in it's no ones biz but my own.

Black '97 Ford F-150 Flare Side with extended cab. Solid (and beautiful) black tonneau cover (great for hiding/locking tools, copper, wiring, etc). Older 16ft dual axle trailer. The trailer's rusty and the boards could use replacing...but it's still durable and gets the job done! I'm thinking about painting it black to match my truck - maybe a project for a boring day.

As much as I love my truck, I would love even more to get over 17mpg. Scrap-Recon missions take a toll on the ol' gas tank at $3.88/gallon!

2004 Dodge Dakota Club cab. Yeah, I take a huge hit on the bed beings small, but.....With the extra room in a lockable area, non ferrous stays safe and out of sight.

1985 Dodge Ram 100, Paid $650 for it, plus another $550 for plates and six months insurance. Paid for itself in two weeks with scrap steel. Have had to replace the battery, alternator, belts & hoses. I only drive it when scrapping because it is such a gas hog, 360 cid. My other car is a lol, Chevy Aveo, 36 mpg!

'92 chevy 1 ton. Used to belong to the railroad. Still has the stickers explaining the proper use of the "high rail" system for driving on railroad tracks. His name is Luke. The utility bed is made of the sturdiest boxes I have ever seen. At 11ga, I doubt anyone has seen thicker walls. I haul a 16' tandem axle trailer.

It used to be my welding truck. Labor day weekend '09 it was stolen and I got it back 2 days later with all the equipment gone, 2 busted mirrors, twisted bumper, and a busted steering column. That's why I don't do portable anymore.

1989 dodge d250. Thats the 2wd 3/4 ton. Has a 318 backed by a 727 with a 3.90 axle ratio. The only time its ever been overloaded is when I tried excavating with it. Lol. 2 tons of gravel was no problem compared to that. I still have no idea what that dirt weighed, but my leafs weren't bent anymore! It even gets 15mpg if I drive it like a grandpa. Oh. And I painted it purple.

My 1969 Chevy C-20 is down right now so I'm using my 1992 Ford Ranger and a super crappy 4X8 utility trailer from Harbor Freight with homemade chipboard sides. I can haul about 3,000 lbs. of steel per run with it.

Ironically, I had a 14' 1977 Ford F-350 with an 18' dual axle trailer that was stolen. It was stolen by scrappers as they took metal too.

Don't steal scrap, you're just a dirtbag if you do!

I use a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500hd Duramax/Alison. Without this truck I don't know if I'd be doing this. It's chipped along with a few other mods giving it about 475 hp and I still get 21 mpg. Incredible truck!
