I tear apart my ewaste in my basement and outside on the patio. I've had a basement workbench for awhile but not a patio one. Picked up a pine cabinet on casters. Decided to turn it into a mini-workbench. To prevent stuff from falling over the back edge, I used two light dissipation screens from a couple of old LCD monitors. Looks pretty good, not sure how well it will work in practice since those screens appears to be a bit brittle.

that's awesome, using stuff you had but couldn't scrap. I was thinking of doing something like that, right now I'm working off 2 picnic benches with plywood over top. I hope it works well for you.

For some strange reason bugs are not as active this summer as they were last couple of years. Or maybe I just stopped noticing them. Or I emit some sort toxic exhaust when I rip apart computers...

ps on the work bench consider putting a small bumper lip on the edge nearest you to keep the screw off the floor and on the bench. Mike

An interesting idea. The surface area is so small that it does not even have enough space for a large desktop on its side or a server. If the lip is small, though, it might be OK while still being large enough to catch screws. Another idea is to put a large rubber mat under the bench. Or, a piece of "hairy" carpet so that falling screws don't bounce off of it . Plus that might provide some relief for feet/back
