the rectangle cat litter buckets are great for storing/sorting non ferrous scrap. pretty easy to find, and the stack well. Waste less space than the round ones.
I use the same ones but they were for pickles originally , my tools of choice in this order are glasses gloves magnet shears screwdrivers hammer drill sawzaw . I try to keep my toolboxes geared towards certain projects so I know which one to grab . You should have 2 toolboxes that contain your essentials , just like a spare et of keys . I have lost or broken a whole lot of tools , they were mostly cheapest that I got at auction or out of a storage unit . I have learned that you get what you pay for , I learned this with metal sawzaw blades . I keep the sawzaw impact gun and drill with me in the truck as well as all my straps and a goto bucket with pry bar screw drives hammer and random other tools .

I finally found a job box that can house all my stone masonry tools until I need them again . This has saved me a bunch of valuable space on shelves and other toolboxes that contained overflow . I do keep a brick hammer in the bucket as well . Might want to look into getting the toolboxes that mount on the side of your bed . Would increase you load volume and not take up any bed space .

You'd be amazed what you can get on a smaller truck. Here's a picture of two of my trucks:

I agree on the storage unit. Having a place to work is well worth it. Plus, you can leave the rack there when you don't want to lower property values with your truck!

I'll never leave the house to pickup scrap without the following:

Tin snips: to cut any wires or such

Bolt cutters: to cut larger pieces or wires

Sawzall w/ metal blades: to cut up any huge metal

    Drill and batteries: disassemble anything

    Sledge hammer: break stuff up

5 ratchet straps: tie all loads down

A tarp: cover loads if u have a lot of loose stuff

    Magnet: for obvious reasons...

Only two mandatory tools for this scrapper. A leatherman and magnet. These are mandatory and everything else is a luxury.

I hear in va. All loads must be covered . My father mentioned this and I thought he was pulling my leg . But apparently a lot of people from other states receive this ticket when traveling thru . So it's always good to have a tarp on hand like you stated . Just in case of rain or loose loads
