    New Trailer

I found a real nice homemade trailer that was built right. Even the ramp is solid aluminum for weight. It has slip leafs on it, so they wont break. Just will slide out a bit under load. Even the tongue runs straight from nose to butt unlike most commercial trailers only run to the middle of the trailer. Guy that built it works for a truck fabrication shop and it was built with scraps from work. Im digging it. Even has led brake lights....think its close to 5x8. I wanted a car trailer, but my old 4x6 broke down. Bearing wiped out taking the axle with. More money than its worth to weld a new spindle. So I bought this. Only bad downfall, is no title, only bol. And here in Pa its a pia to get a title for homemade. So I just swapped my plate and vin from my old trailer on it. {aid 3 andrew jacksons for it.

I felt like I was running truck again. This is its first load. I ran down to pick up the trailer a 100 miles away and the gf found this load on craigs on the way home. So just like driving truck professionally. Ran down to get a empty, ran back up, picked up a load. Then home. Lots of resale in parts here, real good find.

    enjoy!!

Under a certain weight class, you do not need yearly inspection. But it can take years to get a proper title, etc for a homemade. Its actually far easier to swap vins. There is guys running around buying junk campers for the title and vin. Which is a great way to make money as a scrapper. I take campers all the time, even charge to remove. If they have a title, I usually have a buyer within 24 hours of it. Just for the title. That is how diffucult it is to title a homemade trailer around here.

A lot of states won't do inspections on trailers.

But, I'd still be legal. It's the right thing to do. I'd be interested in seeing the Pennsylvania forms- in Wyoming, I know it's just a single piece of paper.

Also, keep a spare tire with- those smaller tires can run hot at highway speeds- they're much smaller than the truck tires, so they rotate a lot faster.

Stay safe, legal, and always secure your loads....

That looks doable. I'll admit, the Wyoming form is a lot easier, but that does look doable.

Of course, I would have probably just bought one with a title if the form was three pages of questions, but you do what you have to do. I wouldn't run another VIN, though.

Things out here are more rednecked, though. Everyone and their cousin has one of these:

At the very least, check the GVW on the axle. Those tires and the axle can't be rated for a whole lot of weight....

I'd hate to have a blowout on the Interstate. That could ruin a day pretty quickly!

Best use of a Chevy I have seen lol . This thread hit home for me . I have been shopping for a trailer for awhile , nothing cost effective in my neck of the woods . It's either a crappy landscaping trailer for $700 or a enclosed starting at 3 k . There are misfits riddled around craigslist for less but they all have their own share of problems . Luckily I have a friend who lets me borrow his when I'm in a pinch . So I haven't made a impulse purchase . For the price I'd say he got a steal .

Ya ment it was 3 ben franklins..300. not andrew jacksons lol. Plus 60 in fuel to retrieve. I talked to the owner/builder. Axle is off a boat, same with tires. I wonder what the capacity is on that? The owner said he had a ton of pavers and it was just ducky. I may put bigger tires. I do have one spare that came with it, although it is dry rotted very bad. It would be short term use. I also have 2 tires and rims from a trailer I scrapped that are even smaller than whats on there, but they are good. Either way I been loading it with zero issues. Worst case is put another axle on it and bigger tires. I can always swap the axle off of my old one, but that defeats the purpose. The one spindle would need to be cut off and rewedded. I dont trust that. I like a one piece forged acle that was never welded or touched...

    Nice trailer ozzy!!

I wonder how many states still do yearly inspection of vehicles?? SD got rid of theirs back in one of Wild Bill Janklow's first administrations. I hadn't been driving long and I can't say that I miss them!!! Our annual license tags have been creeping up in cost over the past few years but its still less than $100 to license a vehicle in this state!!

You have to do a yearly inspection on certain weight class trailers, usually twin screws. This doesnt need nothing

I know Wyoming used to have them. I own a 1986 Dodge that was a county truck all it's life. There are a couple of inspection stickers on the windshield- 1987 and 1988. I know we quit somewhere around that period. It's kind of neat to see the stickers- you don't see them too often!

I would hate inspections, though. I keep everything safe, but there is no way that I could get a 29 year old truck through the sniffer test!

Seen one of these around my town today for the first time. Saw a scrapper hauling it around with his tractor, not something you see everyday!

I've pulled ours with the White 2-105 before. They can be hard to back and it's tricky to get the weight distribution just right, but they are nice for the little bit of money that you spend. I use mine like a rolling scrap dumpster- fill it up, and haul it in when it's full.

I own a 1986 Dodge without a bed. Backing the trailer with that truck is super easy With a bed, though, the tongue on mine is so short that you don't notice anything until you have to go forwards to correct it....
