    Sigh....

I put this in Tools and Equipment because it is my home equipment. Ten year old AC I had installed new. Ten year warrantee done in May (how the eff can they time it that well?). Seems like it is a air handler motor issue. So, I take it apart and look up the part number blah blah. I find out it is some kind of programmable motor blah blah that blah blah that can't be replaced with a run of the mill motor or squirrel cage or retrofit... The place that installed the unit wants $1400 to put a new fan motor in the AH and program it. GE does not make the motor anymore but Genteq does make a motor they say replaces it ($377). There is new old stock on ebay ($675). I have a Centeq ordered and scheduled to arrive Fri. I am going to put it in and hope it works.

I am a little upset that the original installer put in a unit that cannot be easily serviced. Oh well, Sigh.....

I've actually heard of this before. The impression I am getting the "new" motors are "better" so worth more. I am going to have to replace mine soon and wonder what's in store for me. Good luck. 73, Mike
