Does anyone know how much a 250kw onan / allis chalmers diesel generator might weigh?

Hey decjr!!! If the motor is not locked up, don't strip it ---- you will get more money for it intact than if you strip the components off of it like I suggested. Also, please consider me a prospective purchaser again, I sold some of my other "diesel junk". I will be coming thru your area on Friday, August 26th. If the engine is still intact, I will want to see it.

i still have all the compenents of the motor, the only thing i removed from the motor itself was the starter there is somekind of steel access panel on the side that is cracked/split in 2 pieces would have to be replaced.

I had a 50KVA generator part in my hands once, didn't get a $ value on it.
The guy (valuer) told me they are worth lots as they are used in 'backup generation' often so they don't get much work & so therefore they don't want to spend much money on a brand new one.

The looks are irrelevant, as long as it works & has the exciter etc included, they hook up a test meter to it, check the resistance, check the bearings, check the brushes & contacts & if thats alright, you might as well have a brand new one in your hands.....

Yea do your homework, I sold a Cummings KT 450 for $12,000.00, which the guy never fired just pulled the pan the check the crankshaft one he was satisfied cut me a check.

Hope it still works for you. Different brand of diesel generators, the weight is also different. Open type and silent type, the size and weight is also different. For example, Cummins, Perkins, Deutz, Volvo, Doosan Daewoo, etc. If it is silent type generator, the dimension is about 4200*1600*2000mm, the weight is about 4200kg. Open type genset of Volvo generator, the weight is about 3000kg. If you still want to know more information about diesel generator, please contact technician.

We've got a Diesel 100 kw vintage WW2 military surplus that we use for a backup generator at work. It's got to be at least seventy years old. Still runs reliably for days on end when the power is out. Granted ... there are some pretty good diesel mechanics in the area.

Bought a smaller 6.5 kw diesel new about five years ago for use at home. The exciter winding on the gen head burnt up after 125 hours of use.

Difference is in the quality of the build. One was made in the USA. The other was assembled in the USA from parts made in China.

I bought a Volvo genset 200KW, open type and it is about 1600KG. I went to the websites of the company I bought, it looks like for different brand, the 250KW genset weight is different. For Volvo genset open type 250KW, it is about 3000KG, and for Yuchai genset, it is about 2155KG.
