Well if you read the posts I said "I" could not find a VIN. That doesn't mean there isn't one. That's why I asked the forum.
As to...
tampering with a VIN is a crime. So you're answer was the wrong answer. Do you suggest I go steal some copper of the phone pole too?As far as worst advive....don't ask questions you don't want the answer to
No plates were on it. The VIN tag was removed or broke off somewhere down the line as I can see the rivits where it went on the tounge. The guy i traded for it traded from a guy who traded for it and so on....
it was old and rusty when i got it. I painted it, redid the lights and deck

Idaho you seem smart. if you look at the pic there is a red wire hanging from the tounge. it runs to the wheel hub. I know this is the trailer brake but what is that wire hook to on the tounge? Is it missing something..battery?
It should go into the pigtail. Do you have a brake controller in your rig?
so i need to swap out the 4 flat plug?
Flat 4 plugs are for non-brake applications only. You'll need to change it to either a 5 or 7 prong plug.
If that's the brake wire it should be up in the plugin cause the trucks set up properly will have a brake controller. Mine was automatic but I could reach down and grab the handle and manually apply them. I've also seen a wire mounted on the tongue for a ground wire cause if you grease your hitch ball you may lose ground.

I traded a 12x6 single axel and $200 cash for it. Spent $75 on the paint, $30 on the lights, $75 on the decking, made new ramps and bought a $349 7,000 lbs winch from harbor freight. I'm going to be really pissed if I can't register it or if some actually still ownes it
well i was going to have the controller installed on monday so I was wondering if i was missing or needed something else mounted for them on the trailer. Now i'm thinking I shouldn't spend anymore money until I know for sure i'm the owner of the trailer
What kind of plugin do you have on it? On the campers I hauled they all had an 8 pin round plug, about the size of a silver dollar. That way there was plenty of plugs for all the different lights and brakes.
As I read your original thread and your subsequent replies it seems quite obvious that you believe that it is in fact a stolen trailer, and/or you believe that the chances are good that it's a stolen / hot piece of equipment.
By the very nature of your responses and the further questions you are asking, it appears that you may have come onto the Forum for the soul purpose of obtaining information to help you hide the fact's and history of this trailer.
I would hate to think that the forum is being used as a clearing house and information hot-line for stolen items ?...... Scrapping is a tough industry to begin with, and there are a lot of very good hard working , legit businesses and individuals who struggle to show and maintain a good public image throughout this industry.
Now I pose this question in response to your thread: What happens when people read this thread and the responses that were given. They discover a person who is openly looking for a way to hide the fact that he or she is most likely in possession of stolen property. Made even more shocking is when they read that other members are replying and suggesting ways to help hide the stolen property, or possibly stolen property.
“Just another black-eye to the scrapping / recycling industry”
I understand that my reply may not be very popular , and please understand that I mean no disrespect to any other member or non-member that may read this. That being said, I will say that this is my opinion and thoughts on this matter.
Sincerely,
GreenTruckR
No GreenTruckR you're WRONG! By not being able to locate the VIN does make we wonder if it may be stolen. I'm trying to locate the VIN so I can call the DMV to check the possability of it being so. In no way am I trying to hide my concerns. I will have an officer come out and check for a VIN. You don't know what you're talking about as I mention in this tread that is was BAD advice when it was suggest i'd grind the VIN# off. That is not an option. See i've know of people who have bought cars without a title from the lawful owner and when they filed for a lost title the old owner claimed they still owned it. Thus getting it back for free and screwing the buyer out of it. When you file for a lost title the DMV sends a certified letter to the last known owner on record. The trailer has been traded off atleast 5 times that I know of. When the DMV sends him a letter he may claim he still owns it even though he sold it 5 people back. I would get screwed and he would get a trailer that he sold long ago back for free.By the very nature of your responses and the further questions you are asking, it appears that you may have come onto the Forum for the soul purpose of obtaining information to help you hide the fact's and history of this trailer.
How is he attempting to conceal that it may be stolen?
He asked about where a VIN could be located on the trailer. He criticized a suggestion to hide any stamps/stickers, stating to do such is a crime.
He wants to get it titled so he can register it and use it.
Hardly sounds like someone trying to get one over on anyone. But maybe he is slick. Time will tell.
If anything, he should have figured all of this out before he put a ton of work into it. BTW NoMoreScrapLeft, the trailer looks good.
Idaho...I tried to trace down the paperwork but having went through so many people I wasn't able to find it. I started doing the work to it because the day I get it plated it's getting put to work. call me stupid but I was staying positive about it as I know the friend I got it from traded for it from another friend. Both of these guys are honest hard working people. The people before that GOD only knows
Why is it that people on here always seem to think there's a "MOLE" on the forum trying to be slick, get over on the system, or is a crininal in hiding?
Personally from my experience, there is one and only one vin plate. Possibly the number maybe stamped in the frame. Personally if this deal bothers you this much, then just take it to the bloody state police. As long as you have a BOS then they wont arrest you for having it in your possession if it is indeed hotter than a prom queen. If your worried about losing your investment, then cut the bloody thing up into prepared. Save the axles and make ya own trailer. Done deal.....no other arguments. :> Thats your only options honesty or possibly thievery in cutting it up and hiding it.... And third option. You really worried about it. I will give you a address, drop it off. And walk away. I will put it to good use real quick....:>
MORE BAD ADVICE! Monday I will haul it over to the DMV. Have them come out and look at it and show them the BOS. If it's good to go I'll pay the cash and get my plates. If for some reason it doesn't happen like that I'll leave it in their parking lot as they'll know what to do with it. There will be "NO" chopping it up, grinding the VIN# off or dropping it off at your babies momma's house so you can chop it up or grind the VIN# off.Personally from my experience, there is one and only one vin plate.
