go with a electric stacker you can prob get a used one pretty cheap. i actully just scapped 3 of them

I looked and everyone wants an arm and a leg around here. I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled!

at my job we have whats called power jacks thier exactly like a pallet jack but the front part moves up and down to put boxes on the shelves and its battery powered

I was out clearing some space at my dad's shop, and found an older hand pallet jack style device. I think it'll move high enough to help us get pallets off the trailer, but I definitely need a more permanent solution, especially if I'm talking 5-10 Gaylords a month from this one location.

It's a good question. I've been searching as well. Something compact without a high price tag. I've looked all over and looked at a pile of different methods. I keep coming back to the fact that if I can't get a forklift due to storage issues, maintenance issues. or whatever....this seems to be about the best option:

Have to do some measuring to make sure it would clear your wheelbase and there is really no way to get more than one gaylord loaded on the truck at a time (can't push with it to slide the gaylord forward in the bed)......plus it's over 1K.
I've looked into gantry's, hitch cranes like the one above.....you name it. Thought about welding forks to a smaller version of that pallet stacker but got worried about it not being stable......I keep coming back to a lift gate, some dollies and/or a pallet jack. For the cost with install......I am even keeping my eyes open for a box truck or stake bed with a gate if the price is right.
Trailer is another option but loading and unloading that has it's own issues....

That's the Ethanol Plant. Still there,and now operational. There is a Big Foundry in town a ways, and an Oil Refinery. Lot's of "Rust belt" industry. And the Cheapest Forklift I can find is a John Deer from the 50's for $1500...Just not ready to pull that trigger!
Have you checked into renting one for a day at a time until you find what you want? I know the daily rates around here run about 75.00 a day.

I haven't, but I have a hoist at the "Big Shop" and a hand crank helper. Worst case scenario I can hand unload everything of the trailer. Just didn't want to. I had to unload all of the deck materials the old man left on the trailer last fall. Always the way it goes..He loads it and I unload it when I need it. You never see me leaving cars on the trailer for 6 months at a time!

Thor, how about a Bobcat, they make forks for them now and they would handle the outdoors terrain better, newer ones are salty but there's some old ones avail.
