Propane Tank

So I am getting ready to buy a Propane cutting torch and I was just wondering what size propane tank I will need? What size propane tanks do you guys have hooked up to your torch. Thanks

I run acctylene but know many people who run propane they almost all use the 20 pound bottle you would find on a grill

I'd recomend either a 20 pound or a 30 pound one like you would see on a RV trailer....This size will still make it easy to handle when moving around and taking it in to fill.

ANd you can get em refilled or exchanged almost anywhere or anytime

We run 20 lb easy to replace on a sunday afternoon if i plan poorly!

I wish acctylene was that availbe that's why got more than one acctylene bottle

I have two acetylene bottles, but I also have three of the 20 lb propane bottles, that I got at an auction for $9 total. They're all full. I have another one that I got for a buck, and it feels mostly full. They're the old style valve, but the acetylene gauge will thread right into them. (That's beside the couple I have for the grill. ) I bought a propane tip for the torch. I just haven't got around to trying it out yet. Once they're empty, I'll exchange them....

This may not apply to everyone, but if you use the small BBQ propane bottles for your torch and go through them pretty rapidly, it might be worth buying the larger 30lb bottles made for a forklift. They have a bleeder valve screw on them, so up here they can be filled from an automotive propane nozzle, and you're charged for the actual amount of propane used, at the automotive price. If your bottle doesn't have the bleeder valve (which I've never seen on a BBQ bottle) then it has to be filled at the bottle fill station by the lb., which at least up here is a lot more expensive. I'm not sure if that's widespread, or just a local/Canadian thing. I can get a 30lb forklift bottle filled cheaper than I can get a 20lb BBQ bottle filled.

Won't one 20# propane bottle depending on Use go thru 3 or 4 t oxygen bottles ? Guy I know told me that was wondering if he knew what he was talking bout

use depends on how you set the gauges, i burn forever on little fuel/oxygen but let a friend borrow my setup and he burns a bottle of fuel a day and 2 of oxygen i get maybe 5 or 6 oxygen to fuel (using a grill bottle)

What tip you running and how much oxygen and propane psi ?#

Born and raised scrapping on acctylene it does everything I ask of it thinking might run another torch was considerng propane or propolyene

I run 1 tip usually 2 or 3 in the thicker stuff and 34 psi oxygen and 4psi acctylene and might the acctylene up to 6 in thick stuff

gas man gave me a bottle of propolyne to try one time, it was nice, burned a little hotter but i went back to propane. good mid grade if you cut alot of thick stuff. i cut up a forklift the other day and propane cut 2" bar no problem, nice thin cuts with small tip.
