the great state of California mandates that an actual straight trailer axle be used in pickup bed trailer construction so it costs a little more to do it out here. No differentials allowed here. I bought square tubing and welded new hubs on the ends and mated them up with the 3/4 springs under the bed (77 chevy long bed) and it still costed like $200-250 for everything (tubing, spindles, 3500 lb hubs, lug nuts, u bolts and plates). Had to do it this way because all the available trailer axles that were at least 3500 lbs were too wide, only had 1500 lb axles that narrow and they're too weenie.
