i cant see the problem with someone scrapping with "unconventional" vehicles, i mean if they are obviously a junky or whatever thats one thing, but to judge everyone because they don't use a nice truck and "leave it to the professionals" is a bit ignorant in my opinion.

really some of these people are demonstrating true ingenuity with what they can pack into a car or on a bike, and personally i believe that is something that general society needs, i mean at least they are using the resources they have to the best of there ability, which is more than can be said for many Americans today.

BTW i used to haul computers from auctions to our office for refurbishing in my SAAB 9-3, so i guess that would make me "unprofessional" even thought i am Comptia A+ certified, and sold $1500+ worth of computers every week at the time.
(you can get 30+ towers at a time in one of those cars and still get 25MPG it was great, i was sad when that car finally died @350,000miles)

I fit $730 worth of non ferrous items in my 2002 Chevy Cavalier once. I didn't have to leave anything behind for a second trip and got 35 mpg doing it. Good luck doing that with any pick up on the market!

With my location, less than 3 tons of iron is not worth the trip, but on my last trip to the yard, I saw a guy back a late model Lexus in with a trunk load of electric motors...probably 500# worth.

Haters will hate. With gas prices hovering around $4 a gallon it makes sense to haul your scrap in the most economical fashion. Focker would you say that these people are morons when gas prices reach $6 a gallon? What about when we start paying $8 a gallon?

I scrap with my Civic all the time. I don't haul loads to the yard, unless it's small stuff, buckets of copper, alum, etc. But, if i'm driving home from somewhere and see something on the side of the road, you're **** right i'll strap it to the roof, and I don't care if I look like an idiot doing it. (theres a pic on here somewhere of a futon frame strapped to my car). I stockpile it on the side of my garage and borrow my parents SUV and my neighbors trailer. Last time two trailer loads was 175. Thats all stuff i picked up with my car. So, deduct the 30 I dumped back into my parents gas tank. thats 145 profit, which is my half of my public service bill for 6 months. Or groceries for 2 months. Or, closer to getting a truck.

So I don't care if I look like a fool. Laugh at me, I'll laugh right back. Makin money never looks stupid.

$10.00 buys me a gallon of milk, a box of cereal, lunchmeat and a loaf of bread. My kids have food. $10.00 don't sound so bad after all does it? Hope you're not hungry some day and are afraid to carry in $10.00 worth of metal in a bag or in your backseat because its embarrassing.

Yeah but how much gas did you have to use to make that $10.00 so still not worth messing with.

Haters will hate but my happy ass in the civic will keep running to the bank so far ive hit 500lbs of steel, 750lbs ins 2, and 36 towers, 20 crts with no trailer. If i took pics of my car packed up on here i would beat alot of these photos for foolishness, but i always forget to. Just play tetris alot and ur set for life.
