Is it worth tearing apart printers, tv's and other electronics?

I have read over many of the forums on here. I admit its a bit overwhelming and I feel like I might be getting in over my head. I have taken apart several computers, printers, fax machines, etc. No TV's yet. My question is this, what do I do with the parts after I take them apart? I keep them all seperate. Ive got several green boards and brown boards. Are these worth anything? If needed, I can try to post different photos of what I have. If anyone out there can help me it would be much appreciated.

as a rule of thumb, green (on both sides) boards are better than brown(on either side) ones, but requires at times a bit of finesse.
Only you can know, and only then with some experience in each department, where you want to draw the line between worth it and not worth it

Actually, with me, most brown boards hit the scrap, soon after I've removed anything worthwhile, such as transformers, Al heatsinks, tiny copper windings etc.
Some have places that buy their brown ones as low grade boards, at better than shred, but there's no place around me that buys them as boards, so I just toss what's left in the scrap pile

I separate all mine into metal, plastic, and escrap. I'll separate the metal more if there is something worth more than regular scrap like heat sinks and what not and my circuit boards, like bear, i break down the brown ones and toss them in one box and keep all my green ones in another box. Then i put all my ram and pci cards in a box to themselves. My biggest problem is finding somewhere to recycle/sell my plastic and my circuit boards. But generally thats what i do with the electronics i get.

I charge $5 per CRT T.v. It covers the gas and handling costs. I try not to deal with CRT's if I can help it.

I think its worth breaking down , I save all the low yield wire in large plastic bags take them in a few times a year , TV's are good as I have a guy who will take the tubes as long as it all is put back together , sometimes I just cut the cord and give the rest to him , space can be a problem

You have to upload the pictures to a photo sharing site, and use the URL they give you from there.

It works if you right click on the square and press open image in new tab. I'll go ahead and post the links to help ya out a little. As much as I love Flickr, you have to use Photobucket and use direct links to put pictures in the forum.

Gravitar, I checked the photos you did for me. Thanks for all the help and identifications. Do I need to seperate the boards? Some are green on both sides, or brown on one side and green on the other. Do they go in the regular junk bucket or do I do something different with them?

On #1 the sound blaster card plugs into the other finger card, both considered finger cards.
    #2 Duplicate
#3- Probably not worth much on Ebay, pull the bottom plates and pop off the circuit boards. Should go as motherboard class,
#4- Pop the board off the hard drive and sell as is.
#5- two finger cards plugged into motherboard, remove fan, and heatsink and processor chip. Also remove ram memory if it's still on there.
#6- I usually take the power supplies and remove wire and sell to local yard the same as a motor.
#7- Pull the boards same as #3
    #8- finger card
    #9- Bottom of "chinese" motherboard
#10- remove fan, heatsink, processor chip, plastic bracket which will remove the metal plate off of bottom.
Hope it help you some,,,,, Most of this stuff I mentioned is separate categories. Put them in separate totes, tubs, buckets, etc.

The mother boards can be different colors but what you have here is no "brown boards". Brown boards come from stereo's, tv's, vcr's, etc.

Just put that stuff in a box and send it to me.........All those items are described in detail over and over in this forum........The one green board is med grade the yoke is copper wound and the brown boards are low grade........You have alot of reading to do as these are some of the most basic items that we run into when scrapping old electronics
