200 CRT computers

Hi,

So today in school, someone called me and left a voicemail, but then texted me. They said they have 200 CRT TVs for me, and can supply that much about twice a month. I really dont want to pass up this offer. Was wondering, how long would this take me to break these all down? And, it would be about 160ish miles round trip. Thats 16 gallons of gas. I just want some input please!

I'm confused, are they TV's or computers?? If they are TV's, personally I'd pass on them.

If you have a way to get rid of the glass and plastic id go for it. Iv read on average you get something like 2 lbs of copper per tv. 2lbs at whatever coppers going for on that day, id say its worth it. Plus the cords and cord ends. Low grade boards. Etc. Time wise, if you scrao full time i dont see a problem getting 200 stripped in a couple weeks. 30 a day. Any you dont get to could always go to the yard whole.

Jord, there is roughly $4.00 worth inside, but some of that depends if the degaussing cable is copper or alum. And some will be alum.

If they are computers id drive down from the great white north and grab em if he couldnt!

Thanks, Wasnt too far off lol. And Very true about the aluminum too. I think it would be worth it only if he had a good way to get rid of the waste.

I askes them and they said mainly all TVs. no more than 10 computwr crts

My opinion - Unless you have absolutely nothing else to do, and no other prospects down the road, don't do it. This will be more of a headache than you can imagine...and they won't stop coming!

Only other way to deal with it would be to contract with a large company to drop off a tractor trailer they can fill up and come collect ever 2 months or so and you make just a little $$$ but dont have to touch them...pretty hard thing to broker though.

Factor in all your time, not just breakdown time. Remember you are going to have to haul those carcasses away, too. Pickup time+fuel+unloading/handleing+breakdown+plus reloading+haul away/disposal/ back end fuel.

I would safely factor in about 15 - 20 minutes per unit, of invested time ( pick up time+front end handeling+breakdown+back end handeling time) You're going to invest 50-60 hrs under this scenario+ fuel
- I always viewed tvs as paying $10 Bucks an hour *disclaimer your results may vary...

This is why I charge to remove them.
