got a sweet pick up Friday

A guy called me to pick up a flat screen tv, and when I get there, it's a Westinghouse 46" led tv that looked brand new. I thought the screen would be smashed or something. I didn't ask what was wrong with it, and when I got it home I plugged it in and it works fine. Only thing wrong is the screen is a little dim on the bottom left hand side, anyone know what could cause it or how I could fix it? I haven't gotten a chance to take it apart and look at it yet. I'd I can get it working its going on the wall to replace my 42" lcd

Also went and to the yard and made $250 the same day. And got some cabinets that I built at work installed in my basement. Finished refinishing my floor in a bedroom, cleaned the lawn mower carb and got the yard mowed, fixed the leaking garden hose, and got rid of the last 6 monitors hogging up space in my basement. I must say it's been a productive weekend

Here Benny, This forum deals with bad caps. which is a common cause for failure in flat screens and computers, also they have parts kits and mucho info available. If your hands on then this might be a simple fix.

there is a big warning that nobody knows about with flat-screens you aren't supposed to lay them down with the screen facing down this could have been the reason

I just took it apart and the sheets of plastic between the screen and the glass were not flat in that corner they were kind of scrunched up. not sure if I did it while taking it apart, but it happens to be in the corner that isn't working right. I'm putting it back together now, I'll post back with my results

Got a 60" LED that was sitting in the trash with the stickers still on the screen. Plugged it and it worked great. Turned around to find a remote in my garage. Started to smell smoke. Turned around and white smoke was pouring out the back.

In the CB radio world we would tell them; "Man, you let the factory smoke out of it."

That was probably a surface mount transistor or IC

A couple of months ago, a friend asked me if I wanted a big industrial monitor, naturally I said yes. Turns out to be a 40" high def lcd monitor, a special one that is meant for commercial use like factories, bars, shops, etc. Only catch was that it was meant to be wall mounted and weighed in at over 40kg. $4 worth of box section steel and some left over plywood, and hey presto, I now have the best computer monitor I could have imagined. Its shock, smoke, dust, and waterproof (6" deep all aluminium case with no vents) and I have thrown things at the screen to test it. I checked up it's specs, and it retailed at over $7000 new. Only problem I see in the future is if it ever packs out, how can I go back to a normal sized computer monitor again. I'm a spoiled rotten happy scrapper.
