I've been waiting a month and a half for them to take TVs again after the holidays ("returns filling up our warehouse, we will start taking them again on Jan 31").
My friend who works there told me that corporate decided to start charging $25 per TV on February 1. Since I have been filling my apartment with TVs waiting for the holiday return season to be over, I now have no choice but to take 20 CRTs to the dump, where I will be charged $30/ton to pollute the earth. This is sad for me.

I dont forsee that lasting as manufacturerer have to provide a outlet for reclaiming thier goods. this was federal laws put in place. if best buy quits then they must provide a new outlet.
now as far as monitors go check apple. they used to accept other brands and provide a prepaid lable and you just paid to package them. the down side is they must be weighed and COMPLETE. no snatching the goodies first.

I see they are no longer taking them at all in IL and PA. This sucks

Here in my town they have municipal dump for residents only. I brought them several smashed-to-bits remains (you'd need a Shovel and broom to gather the guts I dropped off there last time) of like 6 CRT TV's to them and dumped the mess next to the In-Tact TVs they had in the trailer they store them in free of charge. Since then I've watched a few vids on how to dismantle then reassemble these CRT TVs without popping them open with my sledge hammer. Simply removing the copper filled Yokes and the copper filled Degausing cables and the motherboards. Luckily the guys who work down there are mainly guys I knew back in HS so they are not gonna give me a hard time about how demolished the TVs I bring in are but lately I'm thinking about bringing them in reassembled neatly (after extracting the goodies then asking them to let me take some home with me or Better yet, letting me use my drill gun to open them, extract the good stuff, and put them back together. It's worth asking right?
I mean even if they can't let me leave with the TVs Surely they wont mind me using my tools to neatly extract the goodies right? This is NJ Baby!!! LOL

My understanding of the federal law was the loophole is that you buy a new TV and they take the old one. Not don't buy anything and then bring them 4/5.Originally Posted by bcrepurposing
Luckily for me my city has a recycling center at the dump and they take it all. Free to residents.

CRT's will become like tires IMHO you pay a $$$ enviromental fee when you purchase a new TV, I could be wrong as CRT's are not purchased, but think of all the dollars that would end up in the hands of your state EPA... I'm amazed it has not happened already.

This obviously varies by state. In Michigan they have to take them back for free or they are breaking the law.

Best Buy stopped taking them in Wisconsin. Thankfully, we have other outlets beside Best Buy. Our fee is only $15 per TV as long as they are delivered to us. We've been getting a lot of TVs anyway, but I bet that number now goes up.
Look at this as an opportunity to adapt your business practices and model. Use this as an opportunity to provide a service and make money.

Last I checked Goodwill was still taking CRT monitors...NOT tv's though.

Ha most of that stuff I would recycle from people for free except crt tv's. I just wish people would give me ups they are good got a battery or two and a transformer.
