thought I would re read this thread and brush up on yall's tips. I am lucky enough that the parish I live in said to toss them into same trash can as regular trash I just cant overload the can otherwise the mechanical arm that lifts the can will struggle. I do have a tip for peeps that are allowed to put in their trash can, oh as far as glass tubes in the can they said they separate it at a transfer station so as not to go to the dump.. my tip ill post somewhere or maby someone already has, when scrappin a tube to lightly crack the neck as you know to let air in otherwise when the dump truck empties your can you get an explosion or implosion rather lol.. I forgot to do that to a 36inch the other day and my wife heard it inside the house lol... anyhow that's yall for good advice I still have a question or to but im researching it maby ill get good answer from e waste buyer..

Also you can use a long phillips and where the suction cup for the high voltage wire goes into the outer section of the tube, put the screwdriver into the hole. You should be able to hit the screwdriver with the heel of your hand and drive it thru the inner layer of tube to vent it.

This remains one of my favorite threads on here as its one of the first threads I started reading on here when I first join.
I remember thinking this place is just like a scrappers bible and in a way it is. I learned so much from reading here!

In Australia, the Federal government subsidises city and shire councils to take monitors from the public for free! It has been great to scrap heaps of them for metals and then I put the backs on the tubes and drop them at the nearest waste depot.

"for free!" nothings for free, just no out of pocket cost to the individual who drops them off. Mike

ferrite is powdered iron that has been fused together under pressure, it acts as a core to increase the magnetism from the coils ,like the core in a transformer. it goes in with the mixed metal around here. some places may pay more for it. think of it being made like a sintered bronze pilot bushing for a manual transmission back in the day.

Ferrite chokes sell pretty well on E-bay in a lot. Especially the split ones that snap together.

Ferrite Choke Lot Split Solid Large Small Assortment | eBay

That is a lot better price than shred.
