    CRT tube disposal

I thought I'd start a thread sharing my attempts to find a place to dispose of CRT tubes, hoping that others will share as well.

The following were quoted for 20,000-30,000lbs of CRT tubes.
Dlubak charges $.15/lb FOB Sandusky, OH Whole units (not bare CRT tubes)
Intercon Solutions charges $.20/lb FOB Chicago Heights, IL Whole Units
Intercon Solutions charges $.25/lb FOB Chicago Heights, IL Intact CRT tubes (no plastic or metal)
Intercon Solutions charges $.35/lb FOB Chicago Heights, IL Crushed
Intercon Solutions said they can handle all freight for $.03/lb. I'm located in WA state
Closed Loop Refining charges $.09/lb FOB Phoenix, AZ Bare CRT tubes

Additionally, some Goodwill locations accept them.
Staples recycles Dell equipment for free
Best Buy takes ones smaller than 32" and charges $10 but gives you a $10 gift certificate

I have a few other places I need to call today including Universal Recyclers and Total Reclaim and will update those when I get the info - they aren't responding to email requests...

Waste Management has Sony and LG take-back programs. No info on if they take them already gutted or not.

Here is the link for the Goodwill / Dell Computers ReConnect Program. They will take computer equipment including monitors at select locations. Any Brand, Any Condition.

Make sure to check your state for the Goodwill ReConnect program. I know they don't offer it in Washington. Probably because Goodwill collects for the Washington E-Cycle program.

I'm guessing i'm one of the 'lucky ones'. My local dump takes the tubes free of charge, however many i want. I'm NOT "dumping" them. They have a specific spot for them, they then pallet them up and ship them off to one of those programs, i'm thinking it's URT? Dont know for sure.

You are lucky. My dump charges $8/monitor AND they have somebody pick them up to recycle them. I think it was TruCycle?

If they can be stripped like PTS is asking, then this is a GOLDMINE for me! There is a Best Buy in my town. Will be contacting them tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I forgot to ask, so I have to re-call them tomorrow to see. I know in a video that they have, the show their entire recycle process. They do what we do with them....take out the wires, circuit boards, yokes, etc. They also safely dispose of the tubes and plastic as well.

On their website, when you select the state your in, it talks about only 1 or 2 per household or something.

However, judging from the article from the link above, I don't believe that their site has been updated to reflect all their new changes.

So, as mentioned, tomorrow I will see how many I can bring in at a time, if they can be stripped or if they will be ignored, etc.

I will also be contacting more Goodwills as well.

Not sure if you ever bought those 200 tvs or not George, but at that auction PTS and I were at last Sat they were begging someone to take 35 ish tvs for $1. So avoid paying, your really doing them a favor just by taking them.

hmmm didn't know I said I would be paying for them...my apologies if I had. They were all FREE.

The contractor didn't know what to do with them, so he was giving them away for FREE.

Unfortunately for me, he must have given them to someone else, as he never returned my phone call or email.

Would have been nice, but that is how the business goes. Win some, lose some, but you keep on trucking!

Also, unless it is at a auction, I wouldn't ever pay for them.

I don't ever pay for anything. I charge people depending on location, quantity, and how much work is involved.

Yeah, I know that some do pay, but I never have, but because I treat them VIP style, never had an issue with people paying me.

Now, as I grow, and I come across what is a goldmine to me, then yeah, I will throw some cash at it, to ensure I do get it though lol

Must have been a different thread I was thinking of George...for some reason I thought you were having to pay some due to the quantity involved.

Might be before they changed. The lady told me, that the square tvs can only be 32" but the flat panel can be up to either 40 or 50 something inches.

That is correct. If you watch their video, they even state that it is out sourced, and that the company's MUST follow their STRICT recycling policies.

Could have been the case. I have been offered scrap jobs in the past where due to quantity, the client wanted some cash. However, they normally always wanted what I was getting for it, or atleast a 3rd of my profits. Wasn't worth my time, since none of it was prepared. I would have done the majority of the work and not gotten a fare share in the deal.
