Unless the DMV put a lien against the title, I don't know if the fees follow the title? I don't even know if DMV's attach liens against titles? I suggest calling your local DMV as if you were buying this truck.

Not buying he owns it. Trying to sell it for him and get the most out of it. I appreciate the concern though!

I understand that. That's why I was saying to call as if you were a prospective buyer or however you want to do it to get your questions answered. If it doesn't follow the title, then sell it as a working dump truck. Around here you'd prolly get 8 to 10 grand for it.

Is the 7,000 something he owes regardless? Or just if he wants to register/use it? 7k is pretty steep...but knowing how California is...

Best of luck in whatever happens.

Technically he doesn't owe it at all. The fees are with the truck as I understand it... The title was signed over but not to anyone specifically. I think I found a local gentleman that has a tow truck business/scrap yard/feed store that my Dad actually personally knows that is interested in it to use on his farm. At least he has a tow truck that can handle it! lol all the other places were not capable of towing that vehicle.
